Front Coil Spring Dilemma

I'm looking for the best spring to use
with the shallow pocket Vega a-arm.
1973 Vega Notchback 350/350 S-10 spindles

Moog no longer makes the Monza v-6 with a/c coil spring (55624 or 5526)
Any suggestions ?

You may be limited to custom springs then. This company makes them https://www.eatondetroitspring.com/ but their reviews on the board here have been a little mixed. You can do a little research and make an informed guess from there. Also I believe all V8/V6 springs came in deep pocket control arms, (I can't recall if the '75 was deep or shallow). If you need to change you can pretty easily swap them out or search the board and a few have deepened them, (try NixVegaGT Project Journal) Harry search.php?keywords=Spring+pockets&t=19422&sf=msgonly
Edit; or go with Clyde as he posted while I was typing

Not to hack jack this thread, I too need front coil spring help. My 73 V8 vega wagon has had stock 4cyl coils (to soft), Monza v8 coils (to stiff), and now deep pocket V6 springs (it sits to high in front by about 3") and is pretty stiff also. Looks terrible on the street.
I have the deep pocket control arms and now I don't know what to do with the front coils. Been thinking of cutting off a coil....?

Cutting a coil is fine but be aware any time you remove a coil the spring ends up becoming a little bit stiffer, which may not be a bad thing.....
Unfortunately getting the correct ride height is often a trial and error thing, lot of work to get it right but it's the only way to make small adjustments.

I have not tried them, but I would look for Moog 6490 which should be 77 Astre front springs- Iron Duke engine and deep pockets. These are a bit longer and stiffer than early Vega springs so they should work well in shallow pocket control arms with an aluminum head small block V8

The coil is wound with flat ends that match up to the coil reliefs in the frame and a arm. if I cut a coil right above the end, the coil spring will not be so flat where it engages the a arm pocket. Is that a prolem?

They say they have them:

Good luck.

BTW, I found them using interchange numbers:
QUALIS FCS5624S
Husky Spring RC5624
TRW CS5624
McQuay-Norris FCS5624S
RAYBESTOS 585-1168
NAPA 277-3203

hey 383 stroker. your probable best bet is to get a set of deep pocket lower control arms(75 and up h-bodies)(all of them) and then get a set of the proper coil springs. most guys go for the v-6 monza with ACsprings. try rock auto, thats where i bought mine from. art

Here is a link to the specs on every coil spring moog makes. If you locate the specs on the coil you have, you can then compare it to others and pick the one that accomplishes your goal. It takes some time to fully understand it, but I have done it several times now on different cars.

Well, I think I've found the problem with my "to tall" of front end. I have Moog #5624 coils in now and I'm told that I should have #5526 in there. Problem is that I can't find this Moog # 5526 listed on the sheets to tell me if the spring rate is different. I did find my current springs in there.....1730 spring rate it says. Not sure what that means though.

Here's some useful info that I used to decide what springs to use. Like Clyde said, it can be trial and error doing front springs. Ive had mine out/in 3 times now and hopefully hit on what I was looking for. Cutting springs just wasn't the answer on my car. rode like crap in the front and made my neg camber worse since I had the 5 lug swap. I ended up using the v6 w ac springs(5624) and 2" drop spindles. So far so good. If you cut, remember 2" cut = much more than 2" drop. I cut appx 1 1/2" off my old ones and put on reg spindles and it was lower than it was with the 2" drop spindles with the same springs uncut. So basically I put it back the way I bought it just with a slightly taller or not wore out springs. Not sure what springs it originally had but one was 13 3/4" and one was 14 1/4". I thought it was strange they were two different heights.

I just ordered a set of ACDELCO 45H0182, from Rockauto this morning and tracking details say they'll arrive tomorrow. My '75 wagon has deep pocket control arms Vega Spindles with Aerospace Component Drilled rotors. Engine has not been installed but its an aluminum headed small block. Springs are for v6 w/o air. The car is still at the shop that mini tubbed it for a 275 drag radial, hope to have it home soon. Hoping the ride height isn't too high :bang:

On my wagon with deep pockets and v6 springs....I fixed it! I added a 1" spacer to the rear stock coils and now it sits level and handles the bumps well. Thanks to all for their suggestions and tips.
