Front Tubular Control Arms - Pics

Postby v8vega383 » Wed Dec 30, 2015 10:02 pm

Hello H Body members! This is my first post so hope I make sense :th:

I'm looking into installing tubular upper & lower control arms on my 76 Astre. We all share the same frustrations on the limitation of aftermarket parts for our cars, but in this case I know a few places that offer tubular control arms. I believe AJE, Spohn and Overkill racecars are my options. Does anyone have any installation pics that you can share and if anyone has experience/knowledge if one is better that the other? Also if other companies offer tubular front suspension components that I didn't mention above.

I look forward to the hours of reading on this forum on these great cars!!! Cheers

Welcome.
I put AJE tubular control arms on the front of my new build earlier this year. I used the ones for coil overs, so far the car is still in building stage, so no road test yet. They fit pretty well, took a little work to get the uppers to fit, had to trim the bushings, and spread the upper mount. I should have a pic... (sorry, doesn't show much detail)
Good luck with your build. These guys know all the parts and are great to work with.

Thanks Bruce. I'm also using coilovers (QA1) on mine, so these would be great. Are you using the adjustable ones and did you use the vega/monza upper and lower ball joints? Also which spring rate did you use? i'm using the 250lb rate.

They didn't recommend the adjustable A arms. I used Viking coilovers (first gen Camaro application) per AJE suggestion, with a 350 spring rate. I still don't have the motor in it yet, so no idea how it will all come together. I also used the S-10 ball joints.

Here's my thread for my '73 Wagon with Overkill's Economy (non-adjustable) tubular control arms and their install.

Here's a shot of Justin's control arms installed. I got him to make the ball joint carriers to suit HQ Holden. I have the HQ spindle and disc brake mounted on there. It all came together well I reckon

Does Overkill / Justin still sell parts? I never heard back from him when I contacted him, hence I used AJE parts up front, Spohn in the rear.

I think he has put the h-body parts on hold because of an increase in local custom work.

Yeah, not a lot of H-body action for him to keep the mainstream/moneymakers on hold. Supply and demand.
I think there was a post mentioning him making certain "runs" occasionally. I would imagine the H-body run wouldn't be a big priority with limited demand.

I haven't run mine yet, but they were constructed well and I was grateful to have someone make a special needed part. Hopefully, he'll be making another run soon if there seems to be enough demand. Probably need to get a "group buy" going for him to schedule an H-body run of manufacturing.
