Upper balljoint to upper control arm torque spec?

Anyone happen to know the torque specs of the 4 bolts on the upper balljoints (75 Vega) that secure it to the control arm? I've searched and haven't been able to find anything yet. Thanks...

Thanks! That's a great link for bolt info-lots of useful stuff. Looks like about 30 lbs should be good. (chart show max 52 lb for 7/16 gr 8 but that sounds pretty high for a small bolt-- I figure 30 is good being that there's 4 of them with lock washers too.)

One other question while I have anybody's attention-- I'm using Bob Gumm's adapters for my S10 brake upgrade and I'm having a hell of a time trying to find the larger castle nuts for the balljoints, can I just use a large ss washer with the smaller castle nut to provide ample coverage over the adapter spacers?....seems to me it should still provide enough coverage and strength.

Don't forget that those charts are referencing the diameter of the shank of the bolt - not the wrench size. A 1/4-28 bolt is usually around 12 lb-ft.

When I was using the adapters on my car I used an thin stainless steel washer. The upper is a follower joint and doesn't see the load that the lower one does. You should be fine.

I kind of figured that out after I torqued down the first bolt, it got pretty tight at 20 lbs and there was no way it was going to make it to 30 lbs. When I first looked at the chart I thought it was shaft size, then I second guessed myself and thought it must be head size.---Always go with your first thoughts!!

No, as Chuck said it is thread (shank) size, not head size.

I have no idea how they came up with this system for classification of grades, but the ones we would use often are;

no lines = Grade 2

3 lines = Grade 5

5 lines = grade 8
