Lift

My 72 sits really low.Headers scrape on every dip in the road.I have a 23.5 inch tire on the rear and it barely clears.I want to change the rear end ratio from 4.56s to a 3.08s so I can drive it on the highway but even with that the tire size will have me at 3300 rpm to go 60.Anyway,what coil springs and shocks can I run to get it up off the ground and let me stuff the biggest tire I can under the rear? Any ideas? I'm sure there's guys that have done it.Also,I see coil overs for the rear but nothing for the stock front to even find out the height of the springs it came with.

Nice looking pair of Vegas you have there.

If you are interested in coil over shocks you can check out my thread for more information.

Basically there is a conical spring made to allow a coil over from a first generation Camaro will
work on the Vega.

As far as spring rate front spring rate around 350 seems to be what most people will prefer for the street
and probably around 150lb spring rate in the rear. I am running 450lb front and 250lb rear for comparison.

As far as exhaust dragging, I believe the best header for that situation is the Sanderson "shorty" which is what
I switched to from the Hooker Super comps. I am sure the Sanderson gives up some horsepower to the Hooker
but I was more worried about ground clearance and being able to run the car as low as possible.

The tallest tire in the back will depend on you wheel being exactly centered in the wheel well, but should
be able to fit up to 26" tall tire with 9.5-10.5 inches wide again depending on ride height and wheel spacing.

The most popular largest rear tire I have seen posted consistently is 235/60/15 on 15x8 wheel with 5.5 inches backspace.

The front tire max height again, depending on your wheel be centered in the well and correct backspacing, should be able
to fit 24-25 inch tall tire and about 7-8 inches wide max.

If you stick with just replacing the coil springs, you can add a spacer in the rear or replace with 82-92 Camaro rear springs and
in the front either V8 Monza springs or V6 springs since you probably have shallow lower control arm pockets.

I hope that helps.

Thanks, that definitely helps! I think I'm going to have to go to longer shocks as well.If I pick up the back I can only go about an inch before the shocks hit full extension.I can't find any listings for front springs at all.Was looking at the MOOG Cargo coils but they only have them for the rear. And you're right,I have the Hookers too.I'll glady go to the Sanderson Shorties to get away from the dragging. Not thrilled about going through the fender either,Seems to limit the turning radius and I'm sure the heat's not good for the tires when they touch. Not much good for street. Thanks again!

Has anyone used the Camaro springs in the rear as opposed to the Moog Cargo Coils?

I put 92 Firebird Formula springs under my wagon. They gave about 3 inches in height and I think made it stiffer. 4th gen f body springs work as well.

Cool.Pretty sure they're the same springs as the Camaro.Probably the best bet for the front will be the v8 Monza springs? i talked to one guy that used heavy duty s10 springs front and rear and it picked it right up nicely, but he says it "rides like a log truck" lol
