alignment /toe setting

Postby 1oldmf » Sat Jul 23, 2016 4:23 pm

got tired of getting "kinda close" toe measurements
so looked around,
and make this, this am, I used 1 1/2 angle, you could use anything you have available.
width is 36" ( so it'll do my truck too)
6 in tall, and feet are 12 in, 8in in, 4 out, to be stable,
one on each side, use 2 tape measures, and read the results,
I thought I was pretty close, but found I was off 3/16,
I use a longacre caster/camber tool for other measurements.

Very nice, I did not know doing an alignment was possible without those big drive on machines.

You can get caster/camber gauges to go along with the device to measure toe. There are many different styles available, here's one.

I was looking at this one, http://www.longacreracing.com/products.aspx?pagename=Product%20Details&itemid=1798&prodid=7220 but I have bigger fish to fry first! That one Clyde posted is pretty nice, way more than I need for one alignment a decade, [lately anyway] Harry P.S. There are cheaper ones available, I seen one at a swap meet for ~$70 but I had already blown my allowance by then!

I have that Longacre gauge with the magnetic mount. I'm very pleased with it, comes in a nice foam-lined aluminum case. I had to buy it when my old Rebco gauge hit the floor and broke in two. I've used the Longacre turntables before, they're nice and light compared to my steel ones.

Thanx for the feedback Chuck, I am not sure which way I may lead, Garage is FULL, pockets are almost always empty. And I don't like crawling around on the floor anymore. But if you want it done right ... we know the ending of that sentence! I think the swap meet one was "Shop Hardened Case" [that means blow moulded], better than no case and cheaper but not as nice, certainly adds value to the Longacre one! :? Harry

I would like to do this myself also..I need to look into an all in one unit for $200.00 or less..I really don't feel comfortable leaving it with mechanics after all the work I have done if I don't have too, Most shops use impact on everything instead of torque wrenchs.
