Proportioning valve

Postby 73 307 GT » Thu Mar 09, 2017 11:55 pm

I have late Monza brakes on my '73 GT, along with a manual brake 2nd gen Camaro master cylinder. I need a proportioning valve to replace the distribution block. I tried finding one for a Monza, but haven't had any luck. Would this work?

If that is the copy of the standard GM unit [like the "General" would make anything that easy for us! :bang: ] I would think it should work but I think I would add one of these to the rear system, if for no other reason than just for the ability to "Fine Tune" your bias: https://www.summitracing.com/int/search ... cation=int I have an older "Kelsey Hayes" one that looks like this one: https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/ ... /overview/ I would also suggest that you search and question "Right Stuff" and or "Inline Tube" [or others that come to mind] I have a used Monza Proportioning Valve, we can make a deal in about a ~week+/- when I get a chance to get it off of the car, P.M. me if you have any interest and we can discuss its' condition, all I have to go by is "Visual" though. I'm not a hoarder I'm a preservationist 78 Monza Spyder (~Soon(ish +/- I guess) To Be 2+2 with Spoilers)

Carolina Classic Trucks carries a good selection of GM style proportion valves . around $80. I put one in my 76 monza as a bolt in part. works great.

Once you start mixing and matching brake parts you can throw off the brake bias. I would just install a adjustable proportioning valve, that way you can dial it in to your combo. Proportioning valves are calibrated for a certain weight car with certain brakes, while they all basically look the same the calibrations could be off for your car.The adjustable ones are plumbed right below the MC and can help you with different part combos.

Yes, I understand the rationale. That is probably the best way to proceed. This is my looong dormant project. The Monza front end parts, and rear end were the last things I did to it, and never really finished. I'd like to get energized on it this summer. We'll see. Thanks for the insight!
