'72 GT Rotors

Postby jaloi » Wed Apr 26, 2017 11:42 am

I have a 72 GT with re-drilled(5 lug)vented rotors. From what I've read they came with solid rotors.Anyway,my driver's side has some major grooving going on on the backside.Question is,what rotors are available or what can I use? I see they still list rotors available for 75-77 vegas but not sure what will work for it. Any suggestions other than going to the S-10 conversion? Thanks...

72's came with solid rotors so they were probably upgraded when they changed to 5-lug.
Monza vented rotors should work if you can find them.
All H-body rotors are getting hard to find and expensive and then add the cost of redrilling, you are better off doing the S-10 front brake swap.

I see they do have vented rotors for 75-77 Vegas. So they fit? If not what year Monza rotors will work? Don't really want to convert to S10 at this time. Matter of expense and timing(summer) that would be a winter project.

Jaloi, they fit but, some have found it necessary to grind some small amount off of the spindle for clearance, some didn't have to. You will also need the matching calipers. There should be a post on here somewhere I have read a couple myself, this is the source of my info here. Clyde [cjbiage] and Dick [Hammerdown7] both have shared. Harry

If you already have vented redrilled rotors then Monza rotors will work.
you may want to locate a place that will redrill them first, some people say Moser no longer does them.

Vega's never came with vented rotors, I don't believe they ever switched to vented ones even after the Monza's went to them in 76. So, if you have vented rotors they are probably already been converted to Monza ones (especially if they have been redrilled to 5 lug). If you still have original H body calipers then the rotors are no doubt Monza vented style. You can post a pic and we can be sure of what yo have.

So what have I got here? Anyone know? Did the Monza rotors fit Vega spindles? I have a line on a pair of Monza rotors if that's what these are.Thanks...

Those look like Monza redrilled rotors. Yes, the Monza rotors do fit the Vega spindle but you have to use the correct corresponding mounting hardware and calipers which you already apparently have. If you are replacing/rebuilding the brakes I would suggest new mounting sleeves and pins along with the correct pads for the vented rotors.

That's what I thought, thanks! Seems too good to be true but found a pair NOS for$52 each w free shipping. Called to verify and they assured me they are 4 lug rotors for76-80 Monza. Guess I'll know for sure when they get here. Anyone's interested I found them at oreilly's auto parts online.
