Drum Brake Help! Where Can i Find One Of These??

Postby gearheadmike » Tue Mar 24, 2020 5:15 pm

So on my project car i'm running a 75 vega rearend and drum brakes in going through and cleaning/restoring them. I noticed one of the brake adjustment clips were broke. Where can i find them or do they even sell them any more?

those are hard to find new, and there is a special tool to adjust them.
you might consider upgrading to the later 76-80 style drum setup.

These are very hard to find and expensive if you do. Are you looking for the LH or RH side? I can run a search and see if I can find anything.

in those later years is it just a simple swap? I know axle has to be pulled to get the backing plates off. But i know some brake swaps need the longer axles. Mine is a narrowed rear and i need to keep my original axle's

The passanger side one is the one that is broken. I found one place that sell's NOS one for $75 i am not paying 75 plus shipping for it. Heck i only paid 50 for the whole rear end.

As I tell callers to the tech line wanting obsolete chassis parts who are familiar with Rare Parts prices: "Unobtanium is a rare and expensive material".

Maybe it's time for that Wilwood disc brake upgrade.

are the drums and shoes in good condition ?
there is an adjuster on ebay but does not say left or right.
also a used adjusting tool there.
your axles should work but you would have to swap everything else
drums, shoes, backing plates, springs, adjusters etc.

Everything is in good shape, just rebuild the wheel cylinders also. There is one salvage yard near me that might have a vega but he is kinda high price on parts so i'll have to see

Most people scrap the 6.5’s when doing a V8 swap since they won’t take S10 axles and the spider gears are like glass.
You might find someone that still has one laying around.

Yeah that's why i got it so cheap but it's in a 4cyl car less then 2000 lbs and not getting beat on so it'll work. I joined some vega groups on facebook hope someone might have some parts to sell.

will the parts from a '72 6.5" axle work? If so, they're yours for the cost of shipping.
