Rear Shocks for 1977 Monza

Postby fas141 » Thu Mar 31, 2022 5:36 pm

I have the standard Monroe front shock for my V8 Monza but now I need rear shocks. I'd like to stick with a Monroe (just for matching purposes) but I do not see any out there. I read some people use S10 rear shocks? I would imagine Monroe makes them but what year/model S10? and although I plan to run a 225/60/15 tire in the rear I am not looking to give the car too big a rake, will the S10 shocks give the car too much height? I am stock V8 Monza springs. Thanks.

The old number was 5817 in the OE Spectrum line. The closest I can find to those dimensions is a Monro-Matic 32306, but that has a lower mount with a 12mm ID instead of 7/16", and the length of the sleeve in the mount is 1 3/8", instead of 1 7/8", so you'll need to use a spacer to make up the difference in length. Plus, the Monro-Matic is a lighter duty shock than the OE Spectrum.
