GT Wheel Trim Rings

Postby kgroombr » Sun Jan 18, 2009 7:56 pm

Hi,

I am missing the trim rings for my GT. I found somebody that has a nice set of 13" trim rings from a Monza. From the picture, they look the same. Does anybody know if they are the same as the ones on a Vega?

Thanks,
Ken

I can't think of any Monza wheels that used a trim ring. There were the plastic "finned" wheel covers and then the 10 hole aluminum ones. Maybe he swapped Vega wheels on to his Monza? Or maybe the Skyhawk or Starfire used a wheel with a trim ring, I think the Starfire's did use such a wheel now that I think about it.

77-80 Rally II wheels had trim rings.

Somewhere near the end of production, these trim rings went from polished stainless steel to an anodized aluminum using the same stamping.
I recall seeing these being used on the later Monza Spyders and Sunbird Formulas with the black rally II wheels. The anodized aluminum rings, if not stained, appear much lighter and brighter but the shine is not as deep.
Stainless on the left, anodized aluminum on the right. The difference is very noticable if one of each is used on the same side of a car.

Thanks for your help. I am going to try to find a nice set of original ones, but they are hard to find without scratches or dents. If I can't find anything soon, I will probably get the Monza rings as they are in pretty good shape.
