Newbie exhaust question?

Postby ig109 » Wed Jun 02, 2010 4:01 pm

I am in the process of acquiring a two door 74 vega wagon factory v-8 ( at least im told it is) and i was wondering.. I wish to build this car to compete in the famed FAST racing class.. I figure with the small block and light weight it should be easy to make this car faster than any other...

My question is this.. In the rules it says that the car must have come from the factory with dual exhaust. Did the Vegas come with duals? even as an option? i assumed they did but dont wish to proceed with the build if the car cannot be made to run in the class.. I have some tricks up my sleeve for the car and will be bummed if it isnt to be..

So does anyone have a picture or diagram of factory V-8 vega exhaust??

Sorry to bear the bad news, but no Vega ever came from the factory with a V-8, let alone dual exhaust.

Ok, then perhaps it is a Monza.. I was going off of what i thought since i was a kid.. Ive seen this car sitting in a barn for at lease 10 years.. Perhaps i was mistaken.. Regardless i know it was an H body.. did the 305 or 350 monzas come with duals?

None of the Monzas came with Dual exhaust either. the best they had was a dual out let muffler I believe

These were all relatively low performance (catalytic converter 75 and later) smog cars. As a result none of them had or required true dual exhausts. The Spyders came with a dual tipped muffler which gave the appearance of duals.

thats close enough.. They did have 4 bbl carbs right? I am clueless when it comes to these things.. I just thought that perhaps the light weight of one of these cars + a large cubic inch small block and a decent set of tires ( as large as they had from the factory that is) and perhaps it could be fast..

Nope, they did not have 4 barrell carbs either. This was a very dismal period for performance. There were only 2 cars made with 4 barrells as I recall. Engine code "K" I believe, however these were special cars not available to the public. So, for all intents and purposes there were no a 4 barrell V8's. They all came with 13" wheels and tires too, biggest available was a BR70-13. Woo-hoo.................In all honesty the only thing that really attracted me to this car (I ordered it brand new in Sept 1974) was that it was a small car with a V8, 4 speed manual & posi rear.
