Hey guy's, ? about 72-73 Vega hatchback interior 'swapping'

Postby joels_vega » Tue Jun 07, 2011 5:19 am

Looking to build a 72-73 V8 Vega Hatchback ....
If I get one with a really old interior....... will any year (71-77) Vega/Astre ..... hatchback/notchback/wagon? interior bolt into the hatchback ?????????? Thank you.......
Future car will look like this guy's cool Pro-Street Vega.

Door panels, dash, seats and carpet are pretty well interchangeable among all Vegas, but there are some differences in rear side panels between early(spring holds the hatch up) and late(pressurized strut). Also watch out for the hatchback vs. wagon & sedan differences; headliner, A & B pillar covers and rear side panels are different.
The "fleet"-
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (work truck/parts hauler)
04 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
93 Suburban- 350/4L60(retired)
00 Saturn SW2- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- younger son's project
00 Saturn SL2- daughter's car
98 Saturn SW2- spare
and 3 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

I thought I read another post here that the door panels from hatch to notch were a little different size too.
The only Vega's that only had a little rust were the ones still on the assembly line.

~~swapping out the interior roofline trim (74 vega) that secures the headliner above both doors. Is there a trick to removing this interior trim? I got the one out of the 75 Cosw., but it destroyed itself. It seems to have a spongy constructed white plastic latch of some sort that needs to be released before it will let loose.
I got the remaining headliner out to try to use as a template. It is as crumbly as a graham cracker. It is warped worse than the atlantic ocean. I am considering saturating it with water so it will lay flat, but I don't know if it will disintegrate. Any ideas? ....Peace
