interior plastic repaint

I just finished repainting my interior plastic, I think it turned out quite nice for a first time try. For anyone as dumb as me, I would highly recommend marking or labeling or even putting the screws back in their holes so you won't have to try to remember where they go two weeks later.

I cleaned all the pieces, sanded all the rough and brittle places, then cleaned again. I used a couple of coats of
SEM Vinyl Prep prior to painting. I painted with off the shelf SEM Color Coat, mostly for the price difference, they could have color matched a couple of cans for about $95, I spent about $15 per can. The color isn't an exact match but close enough for me.

Next step... tune up!

guys i used satin finish Fusion from krylon with excellent results but mine went from red to black one thing i made sure to buy enough to do the whole job in the same batch, but still had really good results the satin isn't "too" shiny and lots better than flat 5 bucks a can beats 15, follow instructions on can,I usually wash real good with soap and water and rub down with brake cleaner to remove oil from fingers then shoot.Timmy

Hey guys, I found another trick. I used Mighty sealer in one even coat, then applied Krylon Fusion and quess what? All the pieces now pass the scratch test. I'll put up some pics when I get them all installed.

I also did the same, repainted all my interior stuff, vinyl pieces and the plastic. Used vinyl paint from Canadian Tire and a Tremclad (or Canadian equivalent, I think it was) for the interior. I went black so no matching was necessary. The biggest thing to be aware of is to prep. Some plastic pieces I didn't do as well on at the beginning and the paint peeled right off immediately. Some of the more damaged, sun dried plastic would possibly not pass a significant scratch test though, but I don't touch it so it has held up well after 15 years now. After this long though, the vinyl is starting to lose its gloss and could stand to have a repaint, but it still looks pretty good, just not as shiny. It has been 15 years so no complaints.

and after 5 yrs the little trim peices on end of package tray

puzzled me as to where they went....but then it all came together.

I have also used the SEM product. If you follow their directions, clean, use the adhesion promoter, etc. it does a fantastic job.

I restored my dash pad with the SEM Firethorn. I put down five light coats but it looks like brand new.

Also swapped in some vented kick panels too. Cleaned and painted them just like the dash.

Looks good. I'm planning to paint some interior prices in my car this weekend and will definitely use SEM product.
