does all replacement carpet suck?

My stock carpet was shot so I ordered some "trim parts" molded carpet from summit and it might as well be a rug.... I'm having a hell of a time getting it in and looking ok. Is there another brand that might fit better or are there any tricks to make it fit better?

Is this a molded carpet? Most of the replacement ones are supposed to be molded to the factory floorpan. It generally helps to lay it out in the sun to help soften the backing and get the wrinkles out. From there you center it on the trans tunnel and then work it down and toward the sill plates. Can you give us more detail or some pics?

I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow, I'm going to leave the car in the sun to hopefully help it lay down better. It is really sloppy by the tunnel in the very front and behind the park brake. I figured getting a molded one from summit it should fit half decent

You can also get spray on fabric adhesive that may help with some wrinkles etc. You spray both contact surfaces and let it dry and then press them together. Kind of a contact adhesive.

The early and late Vegas use different carpets because the floorpans were changed. Is it possible you were sent the wrong one?

I wonder if that's what happened, it seems like it was moulded on a wider tunnel, do you know what all is different between the years on the floor pan?

I know the tunnel on my '80 Monza is bigger than my '75 Skyhawk. I put a later console in the Skyhawk and it was way too wide for the hump.

Wow, I thought it was the other way around, the 75's had the bigger tunnel because the early cars were designed for the Wankel rotary engine which required a higher tunnel to accommodate the high output shaft of the rotary.

I should have said wider for the '80. Maybe the '75 is higher, but narrower at the top. Overall size, between the two, I am not sure.

Ya I could see that my carpet was made for a taller tunnel.... I'm bummed, I figured getting the nicest one I could find I wouldn't get screwed!

Turns out I supposedly got the right year of carpet, but when I called and talked to them all they could say was to try and pull the sides out to make it fit the tunnel better  I'm going to call again tomorrow so I can email them some pictures. Till then I guess I'll just run a bare floor like a race car :)

If that is actually in position tell them it doesn't fit up the firewall far enough either. Same problem I had with ACC carpet.
