Spraycan Dark Carmine

Postby starfire » Fri Jan 31, 2014 10:56 pm

Does anyone have an off the shelf spraycan that comes close to the Dark Carmine of my 1978 interior?

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

See if this link works for you:

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yourautotrim-st ... _149898214

It's a color chip chart for the interior dyes that SEM makes. I was lucky enough when I did the Firethorn interior of the Cosworth that they called their color Firethorn. They make a couple of other reds, see if any match yours.

SEM paints are available at automotive paint stores, O'Reilly, and others.

Chuck, thanks for the link, I can see the chart. Biggest problem is that I'm a little color deficient, so I was hoping someone had already done the work and could tell me "Use SEM xyz".

I'm curious, can anyone see the numbers that are supposed to be in the circles? I cannot see them, but now I'm wondering if it's just a bunch of dots and there are no numbers?

Yup, I've been red/green deficient for a long time, too. I can't tell you for sure, but I always thought that Carmine was a different shade than Firethorn. The Firethorn interior has carpet that is a different shade than the seats and panels. I used Firethorn for the panels and Flame Red for touching up the carpet on the back of the rear seat.

I bought a couple of sample cans and sprayed sample patches to match my '80 Monza charmine interior and the Napa Red seemed to be the best match. I'm sure the original colors fade to different shades depending on what they have been subjected to.

Bastards don't show their paint online. Now I'll have to actually go to the store...

I can tell you that the Firethorn matches the interior that came in my 77 Mirage almost perfectly.

Here is a screen shot of the OER catalog, paint page:

Yes, it looks like they say PP830 is '77-'79 Dark Carmine Red.

Beautiful. Thanks Chuck. I've never heard of OER before. I will have to order some up.
