Hey, does anyone know if these F-body escutcheons from OER are the same ones that are in a '78 h-body? They look very close, but I would hate to spend the money on them and find out they are a little different.

Thanks

I don't know if these are the same but I do know there are several different versions of these and they are not interchangeable. The main difference is the depth of the escutcheon. It has to match the intended door panel so that it fits flush. There are several different depths and from a picture they all look the same. If you look at the back of your old one there is a part number on it, let me know what it is.

Clyde,

I've got what I believe to be a NOS RH one. Part number is 9738254. However, the GM box that it came in has the part number as 9738256. Hmm, I've also found information that claims that the 9738256 part fits '75-76 Firebird, 75-77 Ventura, 77-79 Phoenix, 76-80 Sunbird notch back coupes, 78-80 Sunbird hatchback coupe with custom door and quarter trim, and then says (Also fits Chevy./Buick/Olds). Hmmm...

Cosmos is on in four minutes. Must go watch.

The ones ending in 254,255,256, & 257 are all basically the same except for color. The 254 and 255 are all black, the 256 and 257 have some chrome on them. Any of these do fit at least some H bodies from 77 and up but it still may depend on interior type. I always suggest looking at your old ones and checking the numbers.

My maybe NOS 254 looks just like the ones in my car and the ones in the catalog, black with "chrome" around the outside. I will have to wait until it's warmer to get one out of my car to look at the number. :(

Sometimes the numbers on parts are casting numbers, not part numbers. That means they can be made into different parts depending upon how they are finished after casting.

That would explain why my 254 is inside a 256 box. The "chrome" makes it a 256.

National Parts Depot has quite a selection of these styles with a huge variation in price. Luckily I have a NPD near me so next time I am in the area I'll stop in and see why the price variation (like $24 for a pair up to $137 for a single http://www.npdlink.com/store/catalog/Ca ... 784-2.html )

The price difference is because the expensive ones are GM NOS originals vs reproduction.
