My driver's door is getting quite hard to open, the outer handle is starting to crack because it has to be raised to its maximum limit to get the door to unlatch. Can these be readjusted? or are replacement parts needed for the fix?

I would suggest lubricating all the moving parts first. After that you may have a issue with the hinge bushings and pins being worn allowing the door to sag a bit. You can also try adjusting the striker on the body. Is it difficult to pull the handle up with the door open? If not, then its the friction between the door latch and striker. Again, that is caused most likely by the door sagging due to worn hinge parts.

You can replace the whole handle with a cheapy E Bay handle. I think they are around $12.00

There are different quality handles available. Most of the replacements are the shorter 5 3/4" ones. I found some 6 1/4" ones out there but they are more expensive but cheaper than the GM ones.
