the new engine has a 702 lift Comp Cams mechanical roller cam. with the pushrod going pretty much straight up a rocker with a .350 offset would work fine with my standard configeration centerd, non offset, roller lifters. that would take care of the clearence interfearence with the intake passage. the verticle clearence problem is another matter all together. it looks to me like the base that supports the shafts is too tall but on the other hand it seems to contact the valve stems correctly as it is. another real scratch your head moment......... :cuss: :| :?:

SENT BACK THAT REALLY GREAT COMP CAMS SHAFT SYSTEM YESTERDAY. I HATED TO DO IT BUT IT WAS JUST NOT GOING TO WORK ON THIS SET OF HEADS. LUCKILY COMP CAMS SEEMS TO BE AGREEABLE TO A SWAP FOR A SET DESIGNED FOR BRODIX -8,-10-11 HEADS. MY CALIPER MEASUREMENTS AND THIER OFFSET SPECS SEEMTO INDICATE THAT THEY WILL WORK. THEY SAY THE THIRD TIME IS A CHARM. WELL THIS WILL BE MY THIRD SHAFT SYSTEM TO TRY ON THESE HEADS. LETS HOPE THIS SET IS THE CHARM... :bang: :cuss:

some one is trying to give me a coronary!!!!!!!!! I SENT BACK MY SHAFT VALVE TRAIN TO COMP CAMS FOR AN EXCHANGE FOR ANOTHER ONE FROM THIER OUTLET STORE THAT WILL WORK. IT'S DUE TO ARRIVE BACK THERE TODAY SO LAST NIGHT I CHECK ON THE COMP CAMS OUTLET STORE E-BAY SITE JUST TO VERIFY THAT THE SETUP I WANT IS STILL LISTED AS BEING AVAILABLE FOR SALE. TO MY AMAZEMENT ,THE TEN PAGE LIST OF ITEMS FOR SALE NOW LISTS 0 NO ITEMS FOR SALE AT THIS TIME. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE SALE ITEMS. AS USUIAL I FIGURE THAT THEY WENT BELLY UPP OVER NIGHT. CALLED THE OUTLETS NUMBER AND A NICE LADY ANSWERED AND TOLD ME THAT NO THEY HAD NOT GONE OUT OF BUSINESS. THAT WAS A RELIEF. GOT AN E-MAIL THIS AFTERNOON THAT THEY HAD BEEN PUNISHED FOR A"POLICY INFRACTION" AND AS PUNISHMENT THEY "E-BAY" HAD REMOVED ALL OF THIER SALES ITEMS FROM E-BAY AUCTIONS. LATER I GOT AN E-MAIL CONFIRMING RECIEPT TO F MY RETURNED ITEM AND TOLD THAT I WOULD BE SENT AN E-MAIL INDICATING THE AMOUT DUE TO TRADE FOR THE NEW ITEM. E-MAIL ARRIVED AND I PAID IT . I HOPE THIS IS THE END OF THIS PROBLEM. ALSO EDWARDS ENGINES GOT IN TOUCH WITH ARP WHO INFORMEN ME THAT THERE IS NO MAIN STUDS CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTIO FOR MY APPLICATION BUT THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO MAKE ME UP A SET IF I CAN PROVIDE THEM WITH APPROPRIATE SPECS. SOME DAYS IT NEVER ENDS :bang: :cuss:

it seems that nobody runs a conventional windage tray like the Diamond Stripper that we modified to fit the bowtie block. it was originally ment to be used on a 350 sbc so the mounting holes needed to be slotted a little and then notched to fit around all three of the center mains. because 'that just isn't done" isn't in our vocabulary we are paying the price as ARP doesn't currently manufacture a set of studs for the bowtie block for use with a windage tray. we found that a set of 400sbc studswill ork with some custom spacers for the windage tray . i am also short one stud as i have only five. i also still need four studs in a smaller diameter to use on the front and rear mains to replace the grade 8 bolts that currently are holding the mains to the block. the studs also need to be cut down 1/4 inch to clear the bottom of the pan, another minor inconvienience. :cuss: :bang:

Ah Ha. Now I get it. Who ever said building a custom engine would be easy though? One of a kind isn't cheap or easy but it'll be much more rewarding than a crate engine when you are done.

some days it never ends-2 recieved my shaft system replacement for my Brodix cylinder heads saturday. this set is suposed to be for the -8,-10,-11 cylinder heads and the specs say they should be fine. took them out to my brothers place in orange county tuesday morning after voteing. put on the first set and gee they fit just fine. now i'm starting to feel good about things going right for a change. i wrip open the sealed plastic wrap on the secound shaft only to find that it has a rather noticeable amount of road rash on several of the rocker arms and further investigation determines that only one bag of stand retention bolts instead of two is in the box. missing all of the retention bolts for the other heads shaft valve train. all this from what you would think to be a totally reliable source"COMP CAMS" liquidation store that claims everything is either perfectly good returns or just overstock or discontinued. such was not the case in this case. sent them an e-mail this AM with pictures . waiting for a reply.............. oh well maybe the fourth time will be the charm. this is really getting OLD!!! :bang:

the saga continues or should i say the EDWARDS luck continues!!!!!! I'VE SENT THREE E-MAILS NOW ABOUT THE ROAD RASH ON SOME OF MY ROCKER ARMS TWO OF WHICH WENT TO SPEED LIQUIDATERS ,COMP CAMS SUPPOSED COMPANY STORE FOR SALES OF OVERSTOCK,DISCONTINUED,AND RETURNED MERCHANDISE FOR RESALE. WELL I CHECKED ON E-BAY TODAY AND FOUND THAT THEY ARE NOW NO LONGER A REGISTERD E-BAY SELLER. THAT IS WHY I SENT OFF AN E-MAIL TO COMP CAMS CUSTOMER SERVICE THIS AFTERNOON TO SEE IF THEY CAN FILL ME IN ON WEATHER OR NOT I'M SCREWED. IF I CAN AT LEAST GET ANOTHER SET OF STAND RETENTION BOLTS I CAN USE THIS SYSTEM THO I AM LEARY OF THE GOUGES TO ONE OF THE ROCKERS CHIPPED ANODIZATION ON ANOTHER. AS I HAVE STATED BEFORE SOME TIMES I SEEMS LIKE IT NEVER ENDS. JUST WHEN THINGS START TO CLICK SOMETHING GOES TO SH*&#- AH poop!!!!!!!!!

well it's d-day again today. after sending back the second set of shaft rockers to Comp Cams for replacement and waiting for the guy involved in these kinds of problems to get back to work. "HIS WIFE HAD A NEW BABY SO HE NEEDED A COUPLE OF DAYS TO REGROUP" i'll definately give him that . he told me that the computer shows only one more set in inventory and no more to be produced and they have not been able to locate it yet but they have someone on it . hearing nothing morei called Monday morning and was informed that it was shipped out Friday and i should recieve it Wednesday which is tommorrow. i checked the fedex tracking system this AM and low and behold it shows my part as being "OUT FOR DELIVERY" today, that's a day earlier than schedualed, a pleasent surprize as these guys always seem to be a day later than they originally predict. well i sure hope this time things are right as this is the last of it's kind and like the dinosuars when they are gone they are gone " no mas dinosures mi amigo". I'M BEGINNING TO THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO FIND THE PARTS TO PUT TOGETHER AN SB-2 ENGINE FROM OLD NASCAR PARTS. oh well the saga continues.can't wait to see the contents of the box this time then on to the pushrod length delema. seems this engine will need some really on the short side infact so short that on the exhaust side my pushod lenght checking tool won't go that small. it just barely makes it on the intake side. just to add to the excitement unless i get this one job approved to start i may not have another one untill after the first week in December. that will mean no more expenditures on parts till at least mid December at the earliest. i feel a lean Christmas coming this year. there are probably a lot of people who can relate to that right now.... :bang: :bang: :bang:

Man this motor is a real epic saga. Then again you could have gone the easier rout. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0334479230 Either way your going to have one bad ass engine.

THE SAGA CONTINUES--------------------- I COULD HAVE GUESSED THIS WOULD HAPPEN------------ recieved new replacement shaft system from COMP CAMS yesterday about 4:30 pm,a day earlier than expected. it was well packed and the new shaft system looks absolutely perfect in it's vacume packed plastic containers. OH BOY, LOOKIN GOOD!!!!!!!!! SO MUCH FOR THE SHORT LIVED EUFORIA OF THINKING EVERYTHING WAS RITE AND COMPLETE THIS TIME!!!!!!!!!! went back into the box to get the stand retention bolts as i had noticed the presence of one bag of 8 bolts already. guess what??? SHOUILD HAVE KNOWN!!!!!!!!! the one bag was the only bag sent to me with the set. so now "AGAIN" i have two sets of rockers and stands and only enough bolts for one set. i sent them a rather harsh e-mail yesterday basically indicating that they should really consentrate on getting thier act together and send me the missing bolts via overnight delivery and reply to my request for compensation, any kind of compensation, for the three times i have had to send thier products back due to damage or missing parts. i'll see what happens but i sure am not going to hold my breath expecting a satisfactory out come to this fiasco. :bang: :bang: :bang: IF YOU ARE KEEPING SCORE THIS IS THE FOURTH SET OF ROCKERS I HAVE HAD SENT ME TO WORK ON THESE HEADS THAT FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER I WAS UNABLE TO INSTALL. THE SAGA CONTINUES............................... :cuss:
