SALT!!!!!!!!

What about the salt? How about this, 181 4cyl EFI/turbo and gas. Would the Monza or Vega be better for this type racing? More of the aerodynamics I guess then brute force. Check this out, yea, I know its a Mopar but it has only a 4cyl. Didn't get the speed he ran last year. The Monza that was there ran a little over 200mph but, that's with a V8. Found it!!! This is the short course exit speed of 236.429. Turbo'ed nitro ingesting 4 cyl. On the long course it ran 255 +

the paint really makes it. if its fast that's great but if it looks good doing it that's a bonus!!!!!!

Bruce:
What do ya think? The Monza or Vega for the salt Assalt? Most of the Vega/Monza's that on on the salt run either Big/Small blocks. I think the 181 cid and a little huffer would get close to 200mph.

Were's the 181 from? That's about 3.0l right? I think that is doable. Maybe shave the fender lips and flush out the windows and loose the front bumper and build a dam up front.. Do they let you do that? That Barracuda/Valiant looks a lot different from it's stock trim... Maybe make it look like that Super Spyder II concept.

i think the monza and vega are pretty close aerodynamically. the monza may be a little more swoopy once you get those headlits covered but i think thedifference is pretty negligitable when you consider that you are probably going to have to add or modify some aero devices anyway. what i think would be a good project and has probably already been done is a turboed, intercooled, nitrosed cosworth vega engine. just my two cents. good luck and have fun with it.

The Blowfish is running the special made block that takes the Hemi head. That is a really expensive recipe for speed. I think I would have to get the SBCII head(BBC style) and re-do the 181cid/3.0L block to have 5 studs. Been done on a 292cid inline 6. Without pressure it should be a potent runniner in a lakester or streamer. If anyone wants to trade a 75 Vega for say a 79-80 Monza 2+2 I'm ready to trade!

Very cool, Randy. You'll have to change your name though! LOL. Where is the 3.0l from? Is it based on an Iron Duke or something? I know it's possible to put a SBC head on those...
A 3.0l 4 would be pretty unique.

The 3.0L is a Marine block. The art of installing a SBC head or inthe case of a 6 cylinder two heads with one cylinder each cut and welded back together. The block will have to have the water passages welded up and re-milled to match the head. Long process! The engine would be a work of art though! Need to get the side cover re-made cause the head overhanges a little.

I've brought up this car before; a 72 Opel GT with an "iron duke" 4cyl(with slice and dice SBC head) has both ends of the L/A NHRA record- 8.80's at 150+mph. No power adders; ALL MOTOR! Let's see one of those FWD imports do that.

A Cosworth Vega, driven by Frank Sloan, just missed the G Production record last month at Bonneville. They take the average speed of two runs in opposite directions. The first run of 153.436, the return netted 152.637 but missed the record by .38mph, all the while running with a severe driveline vibration. The rear wheels and drive shaft are being inspected. The little 2 liter hovered around 8750rpm for the last mile on the three mile course. You can see pictures of the car on the Cosworth web site.
