Ron Smaldone's SSA CV

I ran across these photos a few months back. They were taken by Clark Nicholls 'back in the day' - 1978 and 1979.

I am not sure where this car is or if Ron is in our midst or even around, but they sure are fun to look at.

The 'SSA' on the door was an SCCA class for 'Showroom Stock' cars in class 'A' at the time. He would have been up against Porshe 924s and Datson 280s of the time.

Showroom Stock meant just that back then...even down to the stock tires and sun visors. I think the only real modifications were for pure safety. Rollbar and seat belt. IIRC, the seat still had to be stock and window nets were not required as well.

How we've come along way from pressed organic brake pads :lol:

Set 1 above is from the 1978 SCCA Runoffs and Road Atlanta.

Seat 2 below is from 1979 at a Regionals race at Waterford Hills.

Looks like he got his money's worth out of that car!
