Post your soloII lap times...

Postby marco_1978_spyder » Wed Jun 28, 2006 10:22 am

Here is a link to a page with some times I recorded back in 1997.
I am the second listing from the bottom.

http://www.flr-scca.com/solo/97archives/event5.html

Here I am again at event #6, look in novice class entry21

http://www.flr-scca.com/solo/97archives/event6.html

You can get an idea by comparing my times to the other vehicles listed....also while there click on 'home' and check out the site to get a feel for how fun solo II can be if you dont already know.

My car was my red 78 spyder pictured in my avatar, just as you see it.....aluminum rims...205/60/13's (i think they were generals)

1"lower coil springs (ieco?)

and thicker sway bars...again possibly addco or ieco.

also a grant GT steering wheel.

This made the car handle very very well.

I rode with the instructor, who ran a champion olds starfire v6 in CP class.

he admitted to being a little surprised after riding in the car, as he was sure the v8 would understeer much more than my car was.

How do you get started in something like that..I'm assuming you have to get a track license?

2 is usually just a course set up of cones in an empty parking lot....

Like the 1/4 mile track on test and tune day, you can show up with your ride, pass a tech inspection and race!
Might cost about $20 for the day, and you'll need a helmet. But thats it. Lots of times they have helmets you can borrow for the day.

The only thing they ask is that you spend part of the time your not racing, helping with track duties.

Someone there will clue you in.

See the main site in the links in my first post, theres lots of explanations there too...

Colin,
The local SCCA group(autocross) where I'm at, has events every two to three weeks in season.
You must pass tech(no heavily leaking fluids, frayed tires, loose items, etc.), sign the waiver, be a SCCA member(or pay a per event fee of $20 if not  ), and they provide helmets, too!

They are very helpful about providing tips and ride along with you on your first few passes to act as an instructor. This is pretty much standard everywhere in the country. It is hard on your tires but the skill and knowledge you learn about your car and ability is worth the rubber........

My local chapter has a forum that you might like to visit to see pics and video of the events..........

I once bracket raced against a full-size GMC van that had 27 seconds shoe-polished on the windshield.

Goes to show you just simply "Run what you brung". :D

For what it's worth, the S-10 and a couple of other small trucks are/were competitive in H-Stock (mine with extended cab and automatic transmission, not so much).

Sorry, way off topic now...

I know this thread is old but with the idea being to show lap times I don't know if it matters. Anyways, this forum has way too few posts :D . My lap times from last weekends event are posted here:

This was my first time ever doing this and (similar to others) I had a BLAST! :th:

It looks like you were heading in the right direction. As for hitting cones....unless you have a fabulous paint job, get as close as possible. You're going to hit some eventually, so find out how close you can get. I try to run over the base if the cone is close to my preferred line. Remember, no car goes around a corner faster than it goes straight. The idea is to make the turns as straight as possible, so you can get on the gas as soon as possible. Of course, you HAVE to make those turns, and the idea of suspension/tire upgrades is to help you get through the turns faster. Keep us posted.
