Can a mid-plate be installed with header choices?

Postby Wrobinson03 » Fri Mar 13, 2026 10:48 am

Guys,
I’m new to the forum and H-bodies. I have a 1976 Vega Wagon that will be fitted with an old school 388 SBC, -8 Brodix heads, Isky solid roller 240 @ .050 w/525 lift, Pete Jackson gear drive, and Eddy street ram w/1850-3 600cfm carbs. Transmission is TH350 with manual valve body and B&M 3600 nitrous converter. I will be ordering subframe connectors and k- member from Overkill. It will get a 8 point bar to start since it’s a street/strip or drag and drag type car. So, my question is can a mid- plate be added with the header choices available? I want the to make the car as rigid as possible. I appreciate your comments in advance, thanks.

Never used a mid plate in a Vega ,but have in a 62 ChevyII , had to do a lot of clearance work to use off the shelf headers, as far as rigidity, weld the subframe connectors in , weld your main cage hoop to the subframe frame connectors ,add full width trans crossmember that ties to the subframe connectors, in my Vega the subframe connectors are tied to the floor pan in 6 different places ,plus a full width trans crossmember, tie as many roll bar points to subframe connectors as possible ,my 62 Chevy II was 25.5 certified, drag raced for 30 some years , last 20 years small tire heads-up classes
