i was worried about the weight when i was all motor but now with the turbo im not too concerned about saving every pound. it would be nice to be about 2750 empty

It's not that hard, Like I said with all steel, fiberglass hood & gutted interior I weight in @ 2760 with me in the car (I'm a shrimp, 5'8 @ 150 lbs.) Your interior will keep the weight up.

Both weighed on a paper recycling place scale. both 2650 lbs. both 5 gal. gas. both no rear seat. both original front seats. Both iron head small block's. 71 has a 12 bolt, 73 has a 8/34 rear axel. Both no heater. Both most of the bracing removed under the hood. Use common sence when doing this, I removed to much on one hood, it bowed 1st time I went on the freeway and I had to throw it away.

The car in the Avatar has a 513 BBC, N/A. . .w/Big M Blk (80lbs heavier than std T.Deck), Alum Hds, TH400 Trans. Back Halfed 9", w/Ladder Bars. . . .. gutted to the max. . . . Lots of alum. in floor board, and dash, and rear seat area. . .8 Gal. Cell. . .Plastic Euro type front bumper, but with Factory Glass (Class Reg.) . . .

Car weighs in with Ass/Gas . . .. .2860 lbs (I weigh in @ 228)

For all you guys wondering what it runs. . .. Car Best is 9.39, 147mph . .. . . Runs 9.50's consistanly (Index that I usually run) at 140mph . . .. Oh Yeah. . .It's Licensed/Insured, and Street Legal.

My '78 Monza, with the T-56, 9", X-body spindles, power steering and aluminum headed 350 weighs 2820. 3,000 with me in the seat.

I own three of them that are tubbed out. My heaviest one is my Town Coupe weighing in at 2740 lbs with me in it and topped off of fluids. I weigh 226 lbs. The car is all steel, has an iron headed SB 350, a turbo 350, 12 bolt Chevelle rearend narrowed, ladder bars, 14 pt cage, RCI poly seats, 5 gal fuel cell, Aerospace Components front brakes, Warlock mufflers, and I carpeted the floors using Thinsulate matting under the carpet. I also had a NOS bottle in the car. Now I do have Lexan windows except for the back one. My doors have been lightened by removing the inner structures for side impact. So my car weighs just over 2500 lbs without me in it. I have run 9.30's on the spray (using only 150 shot) but this on a 461 HP @ 5500 RPM iron headed hydraulic cammed motor putting out 485 TQ @ 5000 RPM.

I am building one right now that so far is expected to weigh in around 2000 - 2100 lbs but it is an all chrome moly hatchback chassis.

My other hatchback car weighs in at about 2350 and it is all steel too minus the hood. This car has an aluminum 9" center section , Convo Pro Wheels, lightweight spool, aluminum headed motor, and Wilwood brakes on the rear. The bumpers under the palstic have been lightened along with their brackets. Aluminum dash and radiators in all the cars helps.

Hopefully this stuff helps a bit.

I'm in at 2650 with a s/b, glide combo. The heads are not aluminum.
The hood and nose are fiberglass. The doors and hatch are trimmed and gutted.
All the windows are lexan with the exception of the stock windshield.

I have a 72 vega I have been bracketing lately. 1 Race seat, glass hood plastic hatch window and door windows. 12 point cage, carpet, all iron SBC and a glide and big heavey pig Dana 60 rearend. no real interior left execpt carpet. I went over the scales the other day at 2700 with me in it.

The green Vega has a 2007 L92 based stroker motor. Callies crank, Howards rods, JE pistons 416 CID. I has a CSU carb blow-through E85 carb. I have more $ in that engine then the entire purchase price of the purple Vega.

What I think I'm going to do is put that motor in the Purple one and run it NA next year and slowly move it to turbo blow through setup. The green will probably get some interior put back in it and maybe the 350 that is in the purple one now and I'll either sell it or keep it around, not sure yet.

Now back to the thread. If I put the motor from the Green Vega in the purple one I will shave 100 more pounds off it for a total of 2600 with me in it!
