That's a good question. I've wondered this myself..
'72 Vega with '93 Camaro LT1/M29 T56/12 bolt 3.31. 16" IROCs all around. Sanderson headers into duals with an H-pipe and Flowmasters. It's loud but at least it's faster than your grandma's Buick. pwned.

It is common to see stock body vegas in the high 11's at our local track, they drive in,race, and leave,I'm guessing 375 rwhp, that mirrors my hbody at 11.80 with 400rwhp and still streetable,on the bottle its a different story,we are giong for high nines this spring on the bottle, new mods include rear sway bar, nascar main body, tighter stall from 4400 to 3000,and larger 10 inch wide mt's,our times have been hindered by a too loose converter,it was stalling to almost 5000 off the line, the cam is good between 3500 to 6500,we forgot to use our motor last year ,,,this spring we will use it all, COME ON SPRING,,

Yes
I'm running custom built sub frame conectors, not to write a book on it ,but we used cardboard as a template to transfer the design to 1/4 plate and used 1.25x1.25x.25 wall square tubing,I will have to say they look awsome and bolted up great, they are strong and we use them when we jack up the car, they tie the front suspension to the rear and cannot be seen unless you get almost on the ground, they tuck up in there Very well, after over 50 dragstrip passes the car is not tweaked, doors open and close with ease and all seams are good,,

high 7's low 8's is a tall order for any streetable car with or without mods,we are hoping for high nines with ours on a 150-175 shot, our car can idle all day in 95 degree weather and stay in the 190 range, most times we leave the car running in the staging lanes to keep the temp up to at least 185 before a run, turbos open up a whole different senario in terms of whats streetable,I have a friend who has a buick gn that runs in the high 8's,he says its streetable but can only go around the block, mine can drive to walmart, the post office, and back home again without drama, good luck,,aim high and if you fall a little short no one will know,,

one more thought on this, due to turbo lag you would be able to leave soft and build power out beyond the 60ft mark, less stress on moving and unmoving parts,I have seen a twin charged nova pull the tires up after leaving the line,he told me he likes to hit a 50 shot off the line to get the car spooled up and moving,on that run his bottle was empty so he ran anyway,it looked like he made it out about a full car length and the front end came up about 6 inches and carried it for another car length, looked odd but the car ran a 9.0,,just my experience,,

thats pretty much what i consider street able being able to drive to the post office to work to the drag strip or where ever i have to go :) i dont have enuff space for a truck and trailer my driveway is barly big enuff for the 87 camaro i currently have and my daily driver my motorcycle pretty much lives in my living room when im not using it.

iv got a friend with a 82 camaro that build a twin turbo 327 he gets 21mpg all day long in the highway plus ran a 10.2 1/4th im sorta thinking about taking my 87 camaro and doing the same build except with a 355 instead of a 327 so ill have a bit more power then him and if im current i should be in the 9's with this camaro and still be able to drive it all day long but in the effort to go faster :) im thinking about possibly putting the drivetrain into a vega sense they are alike 1000lbs lighter then a third gen camaro which means id be able to make it in the 8's and with some tweaking possibly into the 7's if im lucky :)

If your building a small block don't limit your thinking to a 355,a stroker has always been the way to go,cost the same and cubic inches equal free horsepower, turbos are torque monsters and that will benifit the design of a stroker, same space in the engine bay, more cubes,,oh my,,,
