Ryan-really nice wagon and really good times with that 4.1 v6 in there on a smaller-tire car too. You have a good launch and your car pulls hard later too. Very cool to see it on video as well. Thanks for posting it up and good job on that wagon!.....Dean

1978 Chevrolet Monza Wagon

Postby King Monza Mike » Wed Mar 26, 2008 6:00 pm

Sorry to bring up another old thread, but i thought i could maybe help...

10.89 @121 and 10.95@121.5
1/8th: 6.89
60ft: 1.54

1975 monza t/c, all steal, 357 (stock stroke, 40 over) th350, Hooker supper comps (an absolute must, I knocked off 4 tenths first pass after ditching my sandersons), 10.25:1 compression, all on 91 octane only, Holley blue, single carb, Brodix Race Rights, used solid roller (one of the best things you could ever do & valve adjustments are easy in a Monza b/c you dont have to reach 10 ft out to get to the motor), factory 3.42's with a new posi, all 4-lug on a 255/60 ET Radial. Theres a few little tricks I learned on this car, if you need any help, let me know.

FWIW, no I did not start out at these times. Honestly, the first pass I ever made with this basic configuration went 12.21 @113! Horribly pathetic! You really gotta just put the time in the car at the track to go faster. First, I junked the Sandersons for the supper comps, went 11.60 first pass. Then I started adding and subtracting jet, it went 11.30's, 11.20 once. Then i started adding timing, 11.teens. Then I changed my coil from a stock HEI to a Accel Supper Coil, 11.Oh's. Then more minor timing and jet adjustments, and bam, 2 ten second passes later I was kicked out of the track! :-D

Just put the work in, it will get there!
All motor, stock suspension, small block, on a radial, daily driven, 10 second car, sucka!

well i got my parts ordered and gonna try and get the bugs worked out and see what she runs. i ran a 12.9 at 104 and a 1.8 60 ft with true street tires i couldnt heat up-no line lock fuel and ignition issues and out of tune. im putting in a fuel cell, electric pump, hyfire 7 ignition, getting it tuned, roll cage,90-10 drag shocks in the front, better mufflers, and drag radials. how much you guys think ill improve with these modifications?

Looking to go somewhere in the 8s with the new engines. Reher-Morrision 565ci BBC. 1150 Garry Williams Dominator, Edelbrock Super Victor intake, Dart 355 CNC heads, 15:1 compression, .817"/.774" 284*/298* 112ls solid roller, etc. It made 980hp at 7000rpm and 511ft/lbs at 5000rpm. It previously went 9.80s with a mild .060" over 427. With the new 565, we are picking up about 400hp.

Thanks, Charles!

As soon as I get the 565 in, I'll take some video of it running. In the mean time, here's a video with the 427...

Hi Racer Ron
Welcome aboard,,Car sounds stout, is it a coupe or fastback?? we will need to see pictures when you can,,if you do not have the torque arm mount on the rear,,google/ebay a mount for a f-body for the conversion, you could also use one of the many f-body adjustable torque arms out there,any/all of them are very close to what you will need with very little fabrication,,I run a comp eng f-car mount on my 9 inch with a modified firebird torque arm,it is in the stock location and has been trouble free for street use,car hooks good [1.40 short times],100's of runs at the strip and its still straight, also there are a lot of companies that are making a torque arm system for the newer mustangs that look pretty good, tons of stuff out there,,I'm partial to ebay as the deals aere great and there is always something you could find new or slightly used,Maine,,you mean that winter wonderland we hear about in the news??I just shoveled 6 inches of the white stuff and its coming again tomorrow,,I only get to race about 4 months out of the year,,kinda sucks, looking to sell the farm when the market turns and move south or west for a longer season,,hope the info helps,,any other questions, just ask,,cheaper that way,,,
