Tallest front tire for a street/strip Vega

Postby 70styleVega » Wed Jul 18, 2007 8:59 pm

Everyone knows that the tallest front tire will give you the greatest roll-out advantage at the strip. :thumb:

However, my Vega will be street driven a lot, so I'm looking to see what the rest of you are running.

Also, I have a couple of p205/65-15, but I'm concerned that 25.25 tall x 5.75 thread might be too tall. What do you guys think?

I did run that size but mine rubbed so I dropped to a 145 with great results!

If you're going to drive the car on the street, those Vee-Dub skinnies on 4 inch rims are not the answer. A lot of the low buck street rod crowd run a 186/65-15 on a 5or 6" rim. A very common(read cheap) size, and at around 24" tall, they'll fit on the front of a Vega without much trouble. As a bonus, you might actually be able to stop and/or steer!

185/65-r15

Thanks for all the comments....

Spencerforhire, I'm going to try the 185/65-r15.

I agree that the skinny tires look neat and work on race cars.... but they will scare you to death in traffic. Been there done that.

So, I'm looking to the experience of the group for the best balance of rollout, braking, handling and fit.

I have some concern in this area too but its mostly with header clearances with the hooker 2129's.

Does anyone have a set of those on their car ?.....Do they rub?
I still have the stock 13" rims with factory style skinnies up front....are those gonna cause me problems with handling? rubbing?

Is the monza wheel well bigger than the Vega well?

Please and thank you
God bless

I run my 195/65's all over the place and at high rate of speeds. They handle/drive just fine on the street. And Ohio roads are not the nicest.
