Burn out or NOT

Postby danfigg » Tue Sep 11, 2007 11:48 am

I have the red Mirage 383 storker turbo 350 373 posi. I never do a burn out for fear of braking the rear. I will do a very very small burnout maybe one turn or so of the tire just to clean the good year 26X 8 inch slicks off. Its funny the see the look on the faces of the tech guys. My best 60 ft is a 1.86 1/8 is 8.014 at 87.40 and 1/4 miles is 12.49 at 109MPH. As much as I know there is no wheel spin but my spotters have let me down and my video person was to far down the track. I will be at Island on Oct 7 so let the experiment of launching begin. Also since my last outing at Island, I put V-6 springs and drag shocks in front 90/10s I also am adding a return line and taking out the factory inline pump as I am sucking through it with a Holly blue pump. The factory pump is also hook up as well. Does anyone think an improvement in performance will occur by pulling fuel directly from the tank instead of pulling thru the stock electric pump and then thru the Holly blue pump and then return to the tank or is this just a better way to increase the life of the Holly blue pump. I may also have the MSD hooked up by Oct 7 so I am looking for an improve in !/4 mile times---------------------Danny

From what I remember, from a buddy, is that if you DON'T turn on the in tank pump it will hurt your ET, but as I remember there wasn't any issue as long as it was running. He ran a 406 for years an put that Monza in the 11's always running the in tank pump.

As far as the burnout goes, I was told that a burnout shouldn't hurt the rear, as long as its posi, and that you don't wheel hop. I've seen guys with a stock S10 break an axle cuz they didn't stop when it started wheel hopping.

V6 springs and 90/10 drag shock up front. holly blue pump with about 5 pounds of pressure and a 750 edelbrock with nothing done to it. I set the time at base of 12 degree's and thats about it. I think there is still a lot in her with some real tuning other than my GEICO Caveman tuning skills. --------------danny

Sounds like a great combo,,I believe there is more in it too,a dyno tune would optimize the combo with timing and air/fuel,my experience was great when we did it,,picked up 40lb/20hp and found the carb was jetted too rich and timing off by 2 degrees,,all for around 100.00,,keep us posted,,can't hear enough about stout combos running great times,,

I shredded my stock posi rear in the burnout box, But it was because I didn't have a line lock and was holding the car with the foot brake. The right rear brake grabbed, the left rear kept going, and then all the springs hit the bottom of the diff. BOOM!

If you don't have one, get a line lock. The launch on slicks is usually worse than the burnout on the rear, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Didnt really get what you were asking. If I remember correctly, a fuel pump does better pushing than pulling. You can hook it up either way.
