If orignal glass, I'd say you were right. . . . does that include the brackets that hold them in also ???

I think mine had been replaced, that I removed, and they looked awfully thin, like a cheap replacement glass. So I'd say the originals would be over 10 lbs.

Also, I might add to this post. . .. . . ... . . Removed cigarette lighter. . . . . . .. Replaced it with a "Book of Matches". . ... . .

Later Dude,

We just started our weight hunt on our vega. We are trying to go as fast as we can with a v6 in it. Our first step was cleaning up the engine compartment. We removed windshield wipers, wiper motor, and accesories, Wiper fluid bottle, and charcoal canister. This only added up to 8 pounds, but its a start and the engine compartment now looks cleaner.

So how did you get them out? I've heard of a couple of ways to remove those.

Thanks,

I got them out by drilling out the spot welds on door by latch and cutting hte front out close as i could by door skin hten cut the front section so as to make the door bar smaller so it could fit through the bottom of the door where i made a slit for it to go through. Took 2 guys 2 hourhrs 3 cut fingers one burnt up cutting tool and partrage on a pair tree. LOLhahaahhahaha IT SUCKED ! But there out now. LOl

The side impact reinforcements in my doors are going to be history! I have door bars anyway. Remember the most effective weight removal is rotating, unsprung and sprung in that order. Caddy Hack was funny. I especially like when they started with the surf boards on the roof

I guess I'm fortunate, I have a "plasma cutter". . . . .. . Yes, it left some marks on the paint, but I was going to repaint it anyway. . .. . . . and the glass was removed previously.

Stivan wrote:Just some info I found out for myself, and thought I'd pass it on.

I went on a "weight hunt" on my '80 H/B, and found the following:

1) Took side crash bar out of door, and trimmed the skin a little, and cut the bottom, and re-welded it to get it out. Window still rolls up fine. Weight - 45lbs. . . times 2 = 90lbs

2) Replaced Door glass w/Lexan window. Weight - Glass 28lbs, Lexan - 2.25 lbs. . . times 2 = 52 lbs

3) Replaced Rear Side Windows w/Lexan. Weight - Glass 8 lbs, Lexan - 1.1 lbs. . . .times 2 = 14 lbs

4) Replaced Rear Hatch Glass w/Lexan. Weight - Glass 68 lbs, Lexan - 6.8 lbs . . . . . 51 lbs

5) Trimmed reinforment out of front/rear bumpers. Weight Trimmed
52 lbs

Just something to think about !!!!

For those that were wanting a confirmation on rear hatch glass I weighed it tonight. It was just over twenty pounds
