There are a lot of different power ratings for the 350. Depends on which heads were used and which year they were from, compression ratio, cam specs, fuel delivery system(2 or 4 barrel carb or TBI or TPI, etc), variance in different year's exhaust manifold restrictions ... not to mention the transmission ratios and the rear gear.

I'd say anywhere from 13 to 17 seconds........

I'm no 1/4 miler, myself ... so I'm vaguely taking a stabb at the times.
If you post a projected HP and torque range, I'd bet the guys with dyno simulators could figure it out for you. For instance, a '69 350 cranks out a lot more power than, say a '78 350.... or look at the '04 LS 350 in the GTO.... wow!

The point is..... I bet there are a lot of guys with 350's in their Vegas that can give you their times but those times will vary from the next guy's ..... alot.

Either one.... I bet it's a lot more fun than a stock '74 140 4-banger. :D

I'm putting down 300 hp to the wheels, and I only ran a 13.6. That was only my second run ever though, and I was kicked out because I ran too fast to not have a helmet (1st run was 14.2). Did I mention I'm running radials, and an open diff with worn stock suspension?

Traction is the largest variable in this. I'm sure with perfect traction, my car would be in the 11's, but it's not a perfect world.

My 74 wagon with a crate motor 350 (84 chevy truck) 8.5:1 bottom end, 268 comp cam, milled heads 1.94 intake, performer manifold, 600 cfm edelbrock carb, th350 trans, 3.73 open rearend. runs 14.2s all day in Denver 5800 foot elevation. And weighs 2990 lbs with me in it. If I turn the NItrous on it will go 13.0s. My guess a bone stock 350 in a Vega at a normal altitude would be around the 15 second zone.
And I thought 2 litres was a bottle of soda pop !! It ain't cheating it's creative use of the rules.

I had a stone stock 350 in my Vega when I first got it...19 years ago. It ran mid-14s with a Turbo 350 / stock converter and 3.42 gear.

I would guess that an unmodded factory original 350 would run mid-to-higher 15's or so-as is, with no gear or converter changes(depending if an auto or not). Lower gears and/or larger stalling converter and probably into the 14's like Chuck mentioned. Playing with the timing and a few other things would shave some more off that too. And yes, there were quite a few different ratings and options for a 350 engine over the years. Just guessing this with a typical smog-era motor. They did have a lot of torque at lower rpm in those years which would do a lot for a light little Vega. Of course, anything you did above and beyond totally stock would make really big differences.......Dean :D

He may be talking about a 250hp 350 GM Target motor in a Vega.

I think Marco got a 15 out of his 305 4speed Monza. ( Heavier car)

My guess mid to high 14's. Hopefully close to what my car will run. ( high 13's)

My Caddy Motor has about 300hp gross and the car weighs roughly 2400lbs.

I'll find out in a couple of weeks what it will run. ( Thats if the rain will let me finish it- another washed out weekend on the way :( )

Doug, guess it depends on what he means by stock. I don't mean to speak for Marco, but I think he had some slight mods. I have seen a few people actually document step-by-step e.t. progress starting with a totally-stock 305 and a good four-barrel intake and carb was worth .8-.9 of a second alone if the original set-up was a two-barrel. Marco's timeslip of 15.39 @ 86.9mph is actually very good for minimal mods in a street set-up and proves that a 305 engine responds well to some simple mods and good tuning. There is power in timing the engine better too. Your car could easily run low 13's or better Doug with 300 horsepower in a 2400 lb car......Dean. :D

Yes, Dean ,that would be nice if I can get it to hook :burn: all the torque ( 390 gross) is there at 1800 rpm! More likely , when I take my foot off the brake. :D Might have go heads up with Josh.

I dont think Marco has done anything but put on a 4 bbl - cast manifold on his 305 He'll have chime in this Index I guess to verify  I dont think he comes in here......................... :D

Most cars in the Sportsman class run 12's at Speedworld anyway. At least I'll wont get that much of a headstart as with the 151.
