Anyone recently bought goodyear slicks?

Postby TopNX75 » Tue Mar 11, 2008 8:41 pm

I am wondering if anyone has recently bought goodyear slicks?

I ran them until about 2002 when goodyear started making the tires in chile. The reliability went down the tubes. The compound was bad and I only got about 30 passes out of the last set I had on the car (in 2002).

I switched to Hoosier, which has been a great tire, but the "section" is too wide, causing me to run a smaller diameter and there is minor rubbing on occasion. Hoosier still does not make a taller tire with the section width I need.

Anyhow, I was hoping someone had recently bought a set of D1984 or similar (32x14x15). If so, could you check the sidewall and see if it still says made in Chile.

I heard a rumor that they stopped marking them as far as mfr location. I also heard that the yellow letters were USA and the white letters were chile..

Anyone heard similar or bought some lately??

Thanks in advance!

What happened with Goodyear?

Anyways, what about Mickey Thompson? I've run two sets of them, and it seems like all the fastest street/strip cars use them, mainly the ET Streets.

I run M/T 32x14x15 slicks because I can not run anyone ele's 32x14 slicks. The section width on a M/T is the least of all of them. And, I sure can't complain with the results and reliability I've gotten from the M/T's. 2 seasons and plenty left for most of this one!

Thanks for all the replies,

I also have to be very careful with the "section" width..

The Hoosiers are much closer than the goodyears were. I see the MT 32-14-15 stiff sidewall, which is what I ran in both goodyear and hoosier.

I am going to try the M-T's when these hoosiers have had enough.

I am almost ready, I hope to re-fire the car on Sunday.. we will see.
