how fast will it go???

1975 Vega 350 60 over {flat tops}, 882 heads {1.94 in 1.50 ex}, performer cam, performer rpm intake {port matched to heads}, holley 750, th350 with stock monza converter & shift kit, holley fuel pump, sanderson headers with some pipe and flowmasters, spooled 342 rear boxed lower and adjustable uppers, 26x9-15 hoosier quick times.

I would just like some input on what you think it might run in 1/4 as to what rules I should {expect} to have to upgrade the car if any.

Just throwing this Vega together while the wagon is still in the build up stage.

Thanks
Logan

I would guess 12 to 13 seconds would be reasonable, better with some N02,
Below about 11.2 or so, most tracks then require you to conform to a list of safety requirements/improvements to the car in order to run, your local track should have the required safety list to pass tech, roll bar, safety harness, helmet, that kind of thing

1/4 mile time

Well to be honest, that is a little slower than I expected to see.! I was hoping to see mid 12's.
I guess I will have to mount the little blue bottle in the hatch also, I think a 50 shot will be safe.

Thanks all

I'd expect 13's for sure. You've got smaller heads, and less of a cam than I do, and I can barely manage mid-12's.

Josh,
ya this is just left over parts and pieces from differant builds. Just a pil O parts sorta say.

What is your motor combination consist of? So I got an idea where this thing stands/sits

Oh ya, no more 3.42 rear eighther. I scored BIG time. I stumbled across a narrowed 12 bolt that is Vega width and Vega control arm mounts.! It is a 4.11 posi with Strange axles. I dont know if the more weight and to much gear might slow me down.? Any thoughts on that?

Thanks
Logan

Josh,

Maybe I should open my eyes. I see you brief motor description listed there. You realy only have 300 rwhp there? That seems kinda low? What would you say flywheel hp would be?
I would expect more HP out of that.!

Thanks again

I know, it's a little lower than I'd hoped for. My first change after I save a little $$$ is for some Hooker headers. I talked to someone at the strip with an 11 second wagon, and he says he gained about .5 sec just by changing to the Hookers. I haven't played much with timing yet, but I doubt that'll gain me 30+ hp.

I have seen 30+ horse difference with correct timing and jetting.
I have seen huge differences with proper jetting, correct heat range plugs and timing changes.
Bigger headers wont make much difference if your tune isnt dead on.

I was running 10.40's with a 406 with small tube hookers.

Well I'm done racing for the season regardless. I've flogged the hell out of my car for the last few months, I haven't gotten much "cruising" time with it. Done till probably August at least.

4.10 are gonna kill your traction....might be ok with the tight converter.
Thats alot of gear for a lightweight car with a low rpm motor.

Id lean towards 14.0-13.6, with the 3.42's.

Those 882 heads are a decent flowing stock head but you essentially have a truck motor there. Prone to warp and cracking too.
Theyre gonna be your bottle neck.

Sounds like a good driver though.

God bless

like fasterthansome said: TUNING CAN MAKE A TREMENDIOUS DIFFERENCE AND THE COMPATABILITY OF PARTS. AN OCTOPUS IN A THREE LEGGED RACE THO SEEMING TO HAVE AN ADVANTAGE IS PROBABLY NOT GOING TO CUT THE FASTEST TIMES. WAY MORE IS NOT NECECERILY WAY FASTER AND OFTEN TIMES ACTUALLY SLOWER.
