So I decided to take the Monza out for a ride. I cruised it down to get gas and some paint at the parts store. I come out from the store and look in the hatch and there is my G-tech. I picked it up an got in the car, hooked it up and I was on my way to a deserted stretch of highway. I pulled over to set the adjustment on the G-tech. I pulled out and cleaned the tires off, pressed go on the G-tech and waited for the go to come up. It did and I launched from idle. It spun hard, even with the drag radials at 18 psi. It flashed up 4.10 on the 0-60 time. The run up through the gears was fun as I haven't run a whole 1/4 mile yet. The final tally was 12.65 @ 115. This was a suprise to me! It felt slow as I spun off the line for about 40 ft. I think I could knock off a good bit with a better launch at the strip. I guess I'll need a cage soon as I finished up the nitrous intall recently. I'm going to try to make it out to Pittsburgh Raceway Park or Quaker city before the end of the year with a 150 hp shot of juice. Slow, fast, or other wise it was fun to drive the Monza today!

That i'm sure was a fun ride  It probably felt slow because you didn't have anything stationary
to judge how fast you were going by it? It should be somewhere in the 8-8.05 1/8th mile
still that's a fun ride anyway you look at it

Bill, Were you spraying some nitrous while obtaining these readings? Have you verified the findings of your V-tech with drag strip passes at any point? I have NO experience with the V-tech or similar devices. Not to bush Quaker City, but I personally have been going to Pittsburgh lately, the track prep is FAR superior. All the guys I run with go 2 10th's & 2-3 mph slower at Q.C. than PRP & Norwalk (which are near identical). The only real bummers to PRP is the drive down Rt. 22, it's a real time killer, it's always been bad with traffic, but the construction just adds to it (about 45min on the pike & another 45 or more on Rt. 22 for me) & the pits aren't as nice as Q.C., but the timeslips are really why we're going, Right? Let me know if you plan to go down there before the end of the year, I'll be going again a time or Two (I've gone the last Three weekends). Talk to you later, Lorne

I used the G-tech twice at the strip a few years ago. It was about a tenth off and 1-2 mph high but thats very close. I used it on my GTO and it was right on with what I run at PRP. I really prefer PRP to QC. It is a very nice track. No nitrous was used.

Waybad,
Stop out when I take the Monza to the track and you can run the GTO down the 1/4. Maybe you'd have better luck launching that thing then I do :bang: Did you pick up an engine yet?

Lorne,
What do you race out at PRP? Maybe we can meet up sometime to head out there. I'll be going again with the GTO guys but I'd take the Monza.

Bill, Here's the wife's ride. Last week...12.29 @ 108mph. I'll be going again before the year is out, send me a message. If that 115 is accurate, that's some killer MPH! Lorne

Ok Lorne I remember the Olds powered truck from a thread on here. You must have a ton of torque in there to get it to a 12.29. The mph is going to be 1-2 high because of the way the G-tech works. It gives you your terminal speed at the end of the 1/4 instead of averaging the last (i think) 60 feet like the strip.

Waybad,
Good luck with the LS1, it's worth the time and effort.

Do all the drag strips do that? (average MPH of the last 60 feet) I didn't know that.

I'm not sure "average" is really the right word, however I don't know what the right word is. My understanding is.... It's the same theory as the police use, Two lines on the road, X distance apart. A given distance covered in X amount of time, the object had to be going this fast.

Bill, of course you would never think of making the QC/PRP trip without an official witness (me) would you? Pretty wicked times, cant wait to see.

I guess it would make sence that to calculate MPH they'd have to see how fast you covered a known distance. I never really thought about it before.

Yeah, it's like what the police use, I think it's called VASCAR or something.

Curtis,

I'll keep you posted. I'm shooting for the Flashlight Drags atthe Zelie airport on Oct. 4th and one trip to PRP or QC. I need a witness to tell everyone how I can't drive :bang:
