potential times

Postby AusRs » Wed Dec 03, 2008 7:55 am

Hi .have not been in this section much as no car on the road :(
With the car finished I was wondering what a possible 1/4 mile time would be with my car
specs
350 +60thou, small cam ,882 heads (have to start somewhere ), weiand manifold ,rebuilt quadrajet ,stock exhaust manifolds with a single 2.5 inch primaries joining roughly at the back of the transmission , shift kitted t350 ,3.23 posi rear end ,running 205/60x14 street tires
I do not have a weight on the car however i would assume it would be slightly lighter than the way GM made is as i took all of the heavy sound insulation out manifold is alloy and so is the water pump
At this time i have no idea what to expect .........however i do know its not going to be great :(

I would venture to guess low to mid 14's with your street tune. If you really work the timing, tire pressures, launch, etc at the strip you could probably get it into the 13's.

Knowing what the small cam is would help a lot ,guess the cam is in the .450 lift range, best guess 14.10-14.30 with limited traction,,expect less and be satisfied with what you get as it is just a starting point, with tuning/testing it is common to knock off half a second, timing changes alone could net you 20hp,shift points make a big differance,so many things to change after your baseline run, those exhaust manifolds are going to be your biggest drawback,it takes horsepower/traction to run big numbers, you will notice that the majority of cars at the track are running 14,15,16's,,also due to traction you will see a lot of 13-14 second cars running big mph's that suggest lower et's,,traction again,,your mph will tell a lot as it should show about where your et will end up,,like a 12.90 @ 110mph is a traction limited run but the mph shows the potential of very low 12.00's or better,,hope this helps,,good luck

How long 'til we see a time slip? Can't wait to see how close the predictions are.

engine combination
360plus 60 thou
cam is lobe centres 112
lift 422 in 444 exhaust
duration @50thou 204 in 214 exhaust
advertised duration 278 in 288 exhaust
as far as i can tell the block has never been decked as it still has the original engine number stamped in it heads are just stock small valved heads
3 runs
first i was not concentrating so blew it badly
2nd run r/t .191 60,was 2.196 1/8 was 9.881/4 was 15.334 @90.76 mph car bogs badly going in to 2nd gear
I do not want a 12 second car i would however like one that will run somewhere between 13.5 and 14 seconds and be consistent (driver needs to work on that )

With the almost 2.2 sec. 60', I would say that traction must be part of the problem; the 90+ mph would indicate at the very least mid to low 14's are possible with a minimum of tweaking. If the car falls on it's face shifting into 2nd, that could probably be tuned out of the bograjet by slowing the secondary opening down. A slightly looser converter can make big improvements in 1/4 mile times, even on a nearly stock combination. The stock manifolds are absolutely terrible; remember they were designed for a 262! Headers would really wake up a .060" over 350. You should be able to shave a second and a half or more without touching the engine internally. If you're serious about making your car faster( and funner) at the track, if possible keep a log and change only one thing at a time so you know what mods worked the best.

well
many things have happened
my fuel bog turned out to be a blocked line to the cannister so fuel tank was trying to suck in on itself ,replaced the fuel line with 3/8 and vented the tank
never actually got to take the car for a run after that as i split a bore in #6
so all new combo
330hp vortec engine
tires are 215/60x15
rear end 3.23
turbo 350 trans stock converter
running performer rpm manifold and a 570 street avenger carby ..hopefully will get it tuned this week and run it in march at nostalgia drags

predictions for this combo ?
