Well, the year is over with.. .here in my neck of the woods. But the last event at KCIR, was an "un-official" Street Rad Shootout" that several players out of the VAMP Heads Up Racing Series, who got together, put some money in for entry fees, also had several local sponsors. In that race, they had two classes, the "All Out" class, and the 12.50 class. Being that the Vamps Series races all Street Legal Vehicles, virtually all cars were "Street Legal". . .Sponsorships paid $50 for the following: Quickest 60' Time. . . .Quickest 1/8th Mile Time . . .. Fastest 1/8th Mile . . . .. Fastest 1/4 Mile, and $100 for the Quickest two pass average.
The only limitations to all of this, was that the cars all had to have "True Street Radial Tires" No bias-ply, no Drag Rads or ET Streets, but True Street Rad tires.
All of this was done from timeslips only, with the track keeping score of all the entrants. So reaction times had nothing to do with it. All of us got in four passes, with a few making five. The track put a 4:00pm time limit on it, after opening at 12:00 noon. This is where the fun came in. In the last 15 minutes, with the All Out leaders, the lead changed 4 times. . . I was fortunate to get to make the last pass. And for this event, I took my Outlaw Street Car, put a set of M/T 31 X 16 X 15's on it, and also an old Fuel Delivery System built by C and S Carbs in STL, that I had laying around the shop for the last 2 yrs, and spent 3 of the 4 passes I made trying to figure out tire pressures, shock and spring settings, to find something that would work. . . . Finally, on the last pass, I set the launch rpm to 2500, tripped the tranny brake, rode the brakes slightly about half way through low gear, until all the drive train finally caught up with the motor, and laid down a 10.314/138.95. That particular pass took all of the above money, except the 60' short-time money, of which I did a 1.711 against a competitors 1.709.
Last Pass 1.711 . . . 6.784/111.19 - 1/8th . . . 10.314/138.95 - 1/4 mile.
All in all. . . .we all had some of the most fun ever, for this year.
