My LS1 Monza went 11's

Postby bill1978v8 » Tue Jun 09, 2009 8:00 pm

I ran my Monza at the Quaker city meet and ran a best of 12.37 @ 108.65. Then I ran it with a 75 shot of nitrous and it went 11.58 @ 114.96. I'm really happy with it and have some things to do to go faster.

Bill, The car is awesome. That's pretty much how I would like to build mine. I would have never thought of the LS1 though. I was thinking of putting the original engine away and finding a tuned port 350 to abuse. I want to hot rod the car, but I don't want to cut it up. I really need to get under it and make sure it's OK. Every Monza, Vega and Skyhawk at the Quaker City show was nice. I'm just a big fan of the H-Body style and of the modern performance of the LS1. You have done a job to be proud of on that car. It looks good, but I'd still call it a sleeper.

Thanks for the compliments. It ran faster than I thought. The DA was 2800' from what I heard. I also found out I set the nitrous off RPM at 5800 but I was going through the traps at 6100. If I bump that up and spray through the shifts it should pick up a few tenth's. I'm going to Pittsburgh Raceway Park next as it runs about two tenth's faster than Quaker City consistantly. I'm looking for a 10.90.

The other things I need to do are:

LS6 intake
150 hp jets for the nitrous
Adjustable torque arm to get a a better pinion angle
Roll cage
and I found the list to go on and on but I want to keep it stock looking. We'll see where it ends up.

Thanks,

Bill

you should pick up alot more , my 4000lb gto with a cammed LS1 and 125 shot ran 11.49 at 121 , and 12.32 @ 112 on the motor , so your lighter monza should run alot better , provided you can get traction , also your mph should be alot better

still pretty good times for a simple set up , 11's are fun

Great job on the car,its a solid runner, those LS motors are the wave of the future, great times for a streetable combo, have you lower your LCA's for traction,I settled at 1.5 lower than stock, seems to help the car bite harder off the line, its a cheap all sweat investment, the car sounds like a blast to drive on the street and I bet it gets good mpg from that ls motor,,keep us up to date with changes,,

Awesome! I can't wait to get my car in that range, but with the old school sbc, it will NOT be as mild as an LSx engine. My LS1 has a nasty cam, but is 100% streetable, with all power accessories, plus A/C. I love it!!

I know some people might disagree, but the LSx engine is the best GM ever built! HANDS DOWN!

it's hard to admit but the future is here and it is the LS -1 and all of its many dirivitives. after doing just a very few intake and exhaust mods to the lowley iron block LS-1 in my 07 SLIVERADO with 3.73 gears and overdrive trans i was truly impressed with it's performence. tho not haveing great bottom end the mid range and top end make me think i am driving a sports or muscle car not a lowly pick up truck. it is evident that these new roller motors with the new, substancially larger, high flow intakes take to simple hot roding mods like a duck to water. if they would only get rid of those God auwfull looking valve covers and cheap looking plastic engine covers they would look as good as they run. it's hard to believe you have to pay over $400.00 to get a decent looking set of valve covers for these engines....... :cuss:

I've seen them polished up. They don't look half bad. If you are willing to re-locate your coils and cut off all of the warts on the valve covers, they look even better once they are polished.

I love listening to cammed LS engines. There are some big cams out there. I'm going the other way and getting a cam that sounds like a stock idle. I love the fact that people ask if it's the stock 305 and I can say yes with no questions. I may go with a quieter set of mufflers too.

if you want to have a heart attach look at some of the flow numbers on the factory LS-1 type family of heads. they flow more than some aftermarket race heads for gen -1 small blocks and maybe as much as my fully ported BRODIX spec. track-1/-11 race heads on the IMSA 's 346 cu in extreem long rod Bowtie block engine. how embarrasing. my truck engine heads might flow as much as my IMSA's :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:
