estimated 355 1\4mile? nos?

Postby monzta » Sun Jun 21, 2009 5:03 am

:bored: hi all, i was building my monza with a tbi, but after many headaches i've decided to go carbed. I have a 355 with a 480(i think?) cam, weiand intake, 650 double pumper(spliter to 2nd line) ported heads, long tube headers, so far stock rear(gettin axle swap soon). Tires will be 245 60r 14 to start. 200 4r trans. Any estimates on the 1/4. Also will it be ok with just a front motor plate, if no i can weld extra frame so my motor mounts work....and lastly what about nos on that setup..safe?..est 1/4 for that?! I'm hopin at least 13.x and 12.x with nos, but idk. i want 12.9 without nos

I'd guess mid to high 13's.

It seems your goals are attainable. I think 12's with NOS easy but its all about traction and getting off the line with your setup. Front motor place only up front should be fine also. Even 129 on motor is doable but you got to get that thing off the line.

as was stated before ,i agree with Clyde. i think to get out of the 13's you'll need some better gearing, tires ,and i'd recomend that you have about 11-1 compression to help things along. your carb, cam and manifold should be right . on my Nova a simular set up but with tri-y headers is very strong from 2500 rpm all the way to 6000 rpm where cams like the 480/480 run out of steam. gears and a higher stall converter would probably due wonders for your application. cylinder head prep can also make a whale of a difference in performence as demonstraited by my set of 1.94 valved but ported iron heads work quite nicely on a street car like the Nova or the even lighter h-bodys. too bad but with 3.08 gears i can't give you any 1/4 mile times as that would be an exercise in futility but i can say that with this combo if you romp on it from a stand still it will smoke theT/A 235/60/15 's unmercifally. the car does have a slightly higher stall speed converter and a totaly performence upgraded turbo 350 trans done by one of my brothers raceing trans wizard friends.

I'm guessing that first time out will be mid to high 13's and with tuning and practice, you can probably break out of the 13's. My Dad's malibu had a similar cam and 355, and ran mid 13's on street tires. when we went to a 383 we have just made it out of the 13's, still on street tires, 3.73 rear, posi and 700r4.
