Building a 74 Vega 2door wagon for FAST

Postby ig109 » Wed Jun 02, 2010 4:08 pm

I am in the process of acquiring a 74 vega two door wagon or hatchback or whatever you wish to call it with the hopes to build it to compete in the FAST racing league.. I have a pretty sick 406 small block that i plan to use as a short block, and the vega heads and such with some EXTENSIVE porting..

Just wanted to get everyones opinion. I think it will be a kick A car.. Light and lots of power.. im not sure as to the limitations of the chassis though.. Someone care to chime in.. Read the FAST rules and then let me know what you all think??

Thanks in advance..

FAST stands for Factory Appearing, Stock Tire

Looks about impossible for an H-body.

I am going to get in contact with the head tomorrow.. I was for some reason under the impression that the vega was equipped with a factory V8... I see now that that wasnt the case.. I know that it was supposed to be a factory equipped car.. Perhaps it was a Monza wagon.. Im not sure.. Havent seen the car in over 10 years.. I have been keeping my eye on it but i live 4+hours away from it.. and my dad says he thinks the guy wants to be read of it.. So YAY.. Anyway.. I really dont want a monza.. After looking i think they arent as nice to look at as the Vega..

So perhaps it is impossible to do with the Vega.. Perhaps i will bite the bullet and use the Monza..

What size tires were on the monzas from the factory?

All H bodies came out with 13" tires.

As far as Monza wagons go... they were just a Vega with a Monza-esque front. So they only had 4-bangers as well.

The factory tire size was puny as well... probably around a 200 series. I don't know. The 13" tires were off my car within days of me getting it! It didn't run for several months later, but it didn't have 13" wheels!

ig109,

Here's some reading on the Vega and Monza models that will give you a better under standing of GM's 70's subcompact.
