Largest rear tire that will fit on a '72 Vega Hatchback ? ?

What do you guys recommend for rear tire size that will fit (without damaging tire or stock wheel well) on a '72 Vega Hatchback -- trying to keep stock wheel wells. *Like to end up with about 1/2 to 1 inch clearance on bottom rear and bottom front of wheel well (between lower wheel wells and tire).
Looking at a 15x12 rim, narrowed rear end, tubbs, with MT ET Drag Radial slicks (supposed to have the lowest rolling resistance and 20 psi.....vs. bias at ~15 psi). The MT ET website says these tires wont 'sperience any "growth" during acceleration etc. Intend on driving the car during 'test and tune".....get it into the 9's......then Retire it to the street and maybe car shows.
Thanks Joel

Ebay photo shows a 15" rim on a stock '73 GT (look like 60's).
