Quickest pass

Postby 383VEGA » Mon Sep 19, 2011 11:42 am

Had a fun day at my local dragstrip yesterday. The Vega ran it's first 5 second pass ( 1/8 mile ). I ran a 5.991 in the morning time trials and lost with a 5.987 breakout in the afternoon. It has been living in the 6.0's and 6.1's most of the summer, and this is the first time it has ever run in the 5's since I bought it in '06. I did a little porting and matching on the intake manifold last week and I guess it worked well. Needless to say, there was a little celebrating going on when I got the timeslip! Lots of fun. Just thought I would share. Woo Hoo! :D

Yeh, the cooler air is definitely nice, for both the car and me. I don't like the high temps. of mid summer. Sitting in the staging lanes in bright sunshine on a hot July day, strapped in with the driving suit and helmet on makes me wonder why I do this. That's when I call my Vega my 'Easy Bake Oven'. Oops, I guess I'm dating myself, huh? Some younger guys may not remember that toy appliance that our sisters had when they were little. Anyway, I do it because I love drag racing and I love peoples reactions when they see a Vega for the first time in 20 or 30 years. Makes it all worth while.

That brings back some memories. Good times.

Rick

That is just about the only reason I take my Vega to cars shows and cruizes. Some of the reactions are priceless.
