The LS Vega round #2!

Postby RockDaddy » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:02 pm

Tomorrow night is round 2 of the Milan Heads up series I'm racing with the Vega.

I got a new drive shaft and yokes so I don't break those this time
I had the converter restalled 400 rpm tighter for more speed and a better launch hopefully.
I have a new tune setup from the data logged from last time.
I closed up the grill area with plexiglass to streamline it a bit. (in 2010 this game me a full 1mph increase top end)

Weather looks to be perfect up here so we will see what I can pull off.

I'm using a FAST XFI to run the injectors and control the ignition. I use an MSD-8 Plus to fire the spark.

Last night was pretty good. The field is getting faster though.

Q1 ran an 8.71@153.x
EGT's looked cool so I leaned it out 5%

Q2 ran an 8.78@144 and I brunt the electrodes of most of the plugs so it didn't like that change.
Went back to the last fuel program and then added 5% for the next run.

Q3 ran an 8.64@157.x so it liked that.

The 8.64 qualified me 12th errr.. fast field.
Gave it another 5% fuel and bumped timing .5 deg

Elimination #1 I got pared up with 5th qualifier so I have my work cut out for me.

I ran and 8.60@156.x and had him all the way to the strip but lost by a fender. It was close. I had a good front half to his bad front half and then he had to run me down.

It was a fun outing but I was beat for sure. I'll post some vids sometime this weekend.

Pretty much you just by a pre-made LS motor plate and just notch it out to sit on the front frame rails as needed. Wasn't bad at all.

Ok but in my ventures I've only come across two piece front plates and I think yours is a 1 piece? That is what I'm looking for. Brian

hey rock daddy. nice performance from your new engine. your tuning teaches us a good lesson about running too lean and tells us to stay on the fat side. i run a carb on my car and will definitely remember this lesson you gave us art

he rockdaddy. looks like you have your car going down track straight as an arrow.. my buddy used to run an 8 second camarto thar was a real nice tube chassis car and he said it was like sitting in a video game and he didnt even feel like he was going over 150 mph. nice work. looks like you are running in a tough class with some very fast competition. keep up the good work art

My GF is my pit crew. :)

I do have it going pretty steady this year. in 2010 when I was starting to see lower 9s it wasn't so stable but this last 18 months has really improved the ride. :) I'm not sure about video game easy but its not bad.

Very fast class here.

Everyone uses 29.5 x 10.5 tires
Single throttle body or carb and need to weight a cretin min. NA only.

Here is the final qualifying sheet after 3 runs. I need to get faster!
