Who has been the quickest with a stock suspension vega?

Postby JWStevens » Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:46 am

I'm building a stock suspension vega that has been mini-tubbed and will have coilovers. I was wondering what is the quickest anybody has ever been with a similar suspension and a true 10.5 tire. This thing is gonna be pretty stupid to drive I think and would like to hear somebody else's experience.

What year Vega had coil overs as an option?

Some stock suspension races allow them. It will still have all suspension mounting points present if I decide I need to go back. I agree that coil overs aren't "true" stock suspension but all of the stock suspension races here allow them. I gave up that arguement years ago...

Not a vega but I have been 9.20's on factory torque arm suspension.
As far as H body's go i think it would take low 8's to be the fastest non mini tubbed non coil over stock suspension.

Well, I guess I titled this thread wrong because I'm not interested in being the quickest, I more or less wanted the input from the quickest about how the car handled down track. I 1/8 mile race and it should go 6.0 on the motor fairly easy. This is by no means a street car. This car is a 4-link car but I do have a torque arm car that I'm putting together that will have true stock stock suspension. 7.5 rearend and no "non-factory" adjustable suspension components or rollcage, but it probably won't get much into the 10's.

73 vega gt narrowed 10 bolt factory 4 link reinforced with old slapper bars... 1.32 60 foot 5.99 in 1/8 115 mph... sbc 406 175 shot of NOS... 28x10.5x15 slicks

best pass to date.. took to track last thursday and on 2nd pass ran a 6.11.. so i let some air out to 8lbs and on 3rd pass ripped the entire lower control arm purchase off the rear end... time to tubb and add frame and 4 link or ladder bars... can see posted on http://www.raceworks.com under dunn benson drag stip in NC

Yeah, it looks like your wheelie bar came unglued there! Does the car drive straight or do you have any issues with it wanting to swap ends down track? My chassis guy has almost talked me into putting my blower on mine now. I'm starting to get a little nervous about that part...

Went 9.98 at 135 on this pass a few years back.. 75 Monza coupe with all stock front and rear suspension.. 27X10.5X15 ET streets (9" tread).. Stock gas shocks, stock 3 link (tubular torque arm), no mini tub... Car hooks hard and straight as an arrow! Although it is hazing the tires during the wheelstand!

the 74' i'm building i eventually plan to turn into a outlaw 8.5 car with stock suspension it'll have to run 5.5's or 60's in the 1/8 to be competitive. we ran a torque arm car i built (not an H-body) at test and tune tuesday night and went 7.86 @ 174mph (1/4 mile) on a 275 drag radials...were racing sunday and hope to go atleast 7.60's or 50's weather is supposed to be a little cooler. on the 7.86 run he was on the brakes and off the throttle at 7.33 into the run....gonna be fun this weekend oh and had a 1.28 60ft time but only a 5.16 to the 1/8th

I've got a 4 link vega but it is coilovered and has a 28x10.5 on it. I've gotten to the point to where if it doesn't run LOW 5's I'm gonna be sick. My chassis guys promod was a torque arm car a few years ago but he changed it to 4-link because he was having issues which could have been a few things but he just eliminated that as a possibility. I don't think he ever went but 4.30's or so with the torque arm. I'm just a little curious how my car is gonna drive being so short.

Is this 4 link aftermarket 4 link or stock suspension 4 link?
