Hey guys with pump gas small blocks/LS. Post your combination up along with best times. Fun to compare and contrast. My dads Vega has not made it out yet but hopefully soon!

As soon as my Monza is done, and the weather, and my job permits, I'm taking mine to the track, for some tuning time. I'll post results then. Brad

Right on thanks. Could you post up the complete motor combo and drivetrain set up too. Thanks!

1973 Vega Hatchback (All steel except molded lips on rear fenders)
406 sbc
stock bottom end
cheapo speedpro forged pistons
low compression (around 9-9.5:1)
91 octane crappy california pump gas
ported stock iron heads
victor jr intake
holley 750 double pumper
transbrake
5000stall
TH400
4.33 gears
drove it 30 minutes to the track (only 1/8th mile ones around here)
This was about 6 years ago. (old heads) Don't have the slip in front of me..only remember times.
Best NA pass was 7.2 in 1/8th
Best 100shot N20 was 6.97 in 1/8th (pulled the wheels on this pass)

I took my car to the strip just after I purchased it. The specs on the car I was given were as follows.

327 (four bolt main) aren't they all, I saw someone post lol
full manual TH350 2500 stall
4.56 mini spool in a Ford 9 inch
MT 28x9.50 tires
was told ran 11.70

my actual knowledge is its not a four bolt main
no idea what size motor it is, specs out as 350 block/heads
Posi not working, its a peg legger and had really bad wheel hop
14.0 at 98 mph in 1/4 were the times I got, was really disappointing...

I'll be going back to the track when it warms up as well. (Not that it's freezing..68 at dragstrip today)
Gotta see how these AFR heads do.
I'll make sure to post some numbers.

Almost all factory 327's were small journal steel cranks and 2 bolt main blocks.
The 4 bolt blocks came out about when they switched to large journals and by then 350's replaced the 327's.

I think he's joking about the fact that that every used car/motor you buy is a "4 bolt main". Also it's always "forged" parts but they never seem to have receipts for them. :bang: (of course you can check the block specs with the casting number..a little harder to tell what guts are in a motor from the outside)

Cant wait to see how the car responds to the new AFR's. We just did a kinda similar swap on my buddies 65 Stang. Went from Edelbrock Performer heads (small valve) 170 runner to some killer AFR 195's. Car usually runs 12.0's at 111 to 11.75 at 115.

Yeah thats a bummer when it doesn't come close to what you were expecting. What carb, intake, gears, exhaust, timing curve?

It has a Demon 750 Air gap intake and the timing appears to be locked at 40 degrees which means it has no compression I believe.
It had the 1 3/4 inch hooker headers with dynomax mufflers 3 inch pipes.

It's much different now so I am interested to take it to the track again see if I made it slower!
Same motor carb, but smaller 1 1/2 Sanderson Headers, 5 speed manual 3.73 with posi traction 265/35/18 tires

I suspect it will be slower.
