Ran across this today; two black Vegas(neither of them mine) at a "Gassah Guys" race in Winterport.

I thought I might like to take a trip to Maine to go racing, so I checked into the logistics involved it taking the Ferry from NS instead of driving 800km(500 miles) each way. The Ferry leaves from Yarmouth, 300km from here, and another 200km from Portland to Winterport. So a total of 500km(300 miles), saving only about 3 hrs of road time each way.
Then I checked into the cost for the ferry; it was completely insane! Somewhere in the neighborhood of $1400 for a return trip with a truck and car hauler. Nope.
So no, Art, that wasn't me!

Hey Spencer, Nice pic find.

Glad to see you looked into coming over to Winterport Dragway. Too bad the cost is so outrageous for the ferry to Portland. They are talking about bringing a Nova Scotia ferry back to Bar Harbor. That would put you closer to Winterport driving right through Ellsworth, where I live, on your way to the dragstrip. It is only about 60 miles or so from Bar Harbor to Winterport. Who knows if that ferry service will ever actually return to Bar Harbor though. I'm sure the cost of that one would be outrageous as well.

On any given Sunday, there are 5 or 6 Vegas and a couple Monzas running at Winterport. Most of them run in the Pro or non-electronics class. I am usually the only Vega in the Super Pro class along with 1 Monza.

It would be nice to meet you someday and compare our race cars. They appear quite similar in performance.

Rick

Hey; that sounds almost like a "call out". What is this, "Street Outlaws"? I didn;'t even know we had a "list". I'm not sure if there will ever be a match race with 383Vega and I; his is geared exclusively for 1/8 mile racing and mine has to this point been 1/4. But 2 of the 4 tracks I race at are now 1/8 mile, so I am considering a gear change.....

Hahaha. I just got to read this. Been away for a while visiting my son in Massachusetts and my new grandson! First grandchild for us. What a delight. I never knew how much he would tug my heartstrings. Anyway, Ken, I really did not mean that as a callout, buuuut, not a bad idea if we ever do meet up. You guys are too funny. Way to stir things up. I love it. Any true racer would not say no to a challenge, right?

Spencer, I am in the process of building a new engine this year. Working on a 414 sbc starting with a Dart Iron Eagle block. I may have to change my 5.38 gears back to 4.88's to keep it off the rev limiter. If I do, then I can run 1/4 mile tracks again if I run a fairly tall slick. That could be fun. We'll see.

Art, Winterport is right off I-95 just South of Bangor, and about 200 miles from NED in Epping. Takes about 3.5 hours towing a race car.

Still laughing,

If we both have equal gearing(I want to try 4.88's myself), I will be at a distinct disadvantage against 383Vega's new 421. He might have to give me a few lengths........

Hey Gasketman,

Glad you commented on here. We have talked at the track, but not here. Glad you reached out to say hey. It's real nice to see you run your Monza at Winterport Dragway. We have quite a strong Vega collection running there now, but only a couple Monzas. No Sunbirds, Starfires, or Skyhawks though. I have only seen a couple Sunbirds at area dragstrips ever, and that was back when I was racing my '80 'Bird in the 90's.

Here's to keeping the H-body's alive and well!

Rick
