Vega Fuel Tank?

So, I pulled the tank from my 73 Vega today. As I suspected, it is full of rust but i do not see any rot holes. So, since they do not make new ones and mine I don't feel is bad enough to toss, what options are there for dipping mine or reworking it? I am putting my car back original so I really do not want to use an aftermarket fuel cell if i can help it. Is there some kind of mild acid that I could use to clean this up?

Eastwood used to make their own brand of gas tank kit, but the only one of theirs I found was for a motorcycle tank.

There are others out there, as well, including services you can send your tank to.

Thanks Chuck, I will check into ordering this. I read online to clean it only, Vinegar and Baking Soda works pretty good. I may also give that a try.

Throw some nuts or marbles in the tank when you're cleaning it. They'll help loosen up the rust when you jostle the tank with the solution.

Pea gravel works great for cleaning inside the tank . look into a product called RedCoat to re line the inside of the tank to seal and protect the inside. as for the out side I used flexseal. look great and helps to protect the out side. for your sending unit, Tristarradiator is a great place to have it rebuilt. I have used them and was very pleased with the results. Look at supplier reviews for more info.
