Postby 2lucke4u » Tue Oct 31, 2006 9:33 pm

Hi Guys
Has anyone made the switch to a proform style carb body,it does not have the choke stack and air horn and makes the carb look like a dominator style carb,,they claim 25-50hp gain,,anyone try this,,results,,

I've run the Pro Form body and can tell you they do perform well, BUT, they have one serious flaw. The vacuum casting is not very forgiving for holding threads. Be very careful tightening the bowl screws and accelerator pump nozzle screws as you will surely pull the threads out of the body. Also be sure to change the idle air bleeds if your existing Holley is not a four hole idler.

Unless you have a seriously small carb on a large engine, the ProForm main body will not add power.

I don't understand what drilling the holes in the throtte blade does?
Read thread completely and don't get it. Could someone explain, thanks

John,

When using a cam with a lot of overlap, to make it idle the carb usually ends up with the throttle blades open too far. There is a slot in the throttle body near where the blades rest at idle called the transfer slot. If the blades are open too far, the transfer slot is uncovered all of the time, which can cause an off-idle stumble or make the idle mixture screws ineffective.

Drilling small holes in the throttle blades allows an extra amount of air in at idle, so you can close up the throttle blades and make the idle more adjustable.

HTH
