barry grants "bad man"

Postby beakerztoyz » Mon Feb 19, 2007 10:33 pm

The march issue of popular hot rodding has an article about barry grants newest invention. the inline 4 barrel carburetor. as they say this is likely the most inovative induction system since electronic fuel injection. basically it is a four barrel carb with the barrels in a line front to back, first and third are primarys second and fourth are secondarys. he uses a lot of the same stuff as he does on the demon carbs. dont worry he designed the intake too, this is an article everyone should check out. in my mind it revolutionizes carbs. and remember this guy is the inventor of the demon, this will work, thee only downside is price, but if i start saving now ..................... what do you all think check it out T.J.

Ford also used a similar type of carb on a very few cars (Trans Am racers I think) during the late '60s. I believe it was made by their Autolite division.
I'm thinking a pair of Bad Mans (or would that be Bad Men) installed side by side would look similar to a full set of Webers (carbs, not grills).

I remember stumbling across a pic of that Ford carb as a teen in the 80's and thinking that was the coolest idea. I wondered why it never got more developement. It seems intuitive that it would promote more even fuel distribution. Maybe it was too expensive to manufacture until now. OR maybe us whack-jobs are ready to pay for them now... LOL. Here's a link to an article:

AND it doesn't use the inferior and antiquated Holley side bowl design! the bowls have the superior Carter top access design. Easier adjustment and WAY less failure. It also uses the superior piston style accelerator pump system instead of the ancient diaphram style. GOod stuff. Seriously Holley was trying to kill us all with fuel seepage from everywhere. WTF.

Again what took them so long. I can't wait to start paying $1500 for this carb... not really... Actually I have no idea how much they are going to charge but it's going to be unattainable...

I'm perfectly happy with my rebuilt, used Holley 750. Dirt cheap, and hell... even I can tune it! Seriously, it runs great, and fires with the tap of a key.

*edit: Holley $750! D'oh! Cost me more like free!

LOL! I was hoping I'd antagonize somebody to speak up on the Holley's behalf! Seriously, I've had a ton of trouble with Holley's in the past but it's a trusted design by lots of builders and race teams. Tough to top that... Thanks for chiming in, Josh.

What do you guys think about a dual 2-barrel carb setup side by side? Maybe that would be the way to go... Did Holley ever make a primary/secondary 2-barrel. Or Rochester or something..?

Would a side-by-side configuration mess up the floats and feed to some of the ports under acceleration? I see what you're saying, same basic idea as the bad man.

The price, whatever it is, includes the manifold. Linkage and air cleaner? Probably extra.

according to the article price would be around 1750.00 including the manifold. the linkage is part of the carb, well you know just like on other carbs, thats for a smallblock chev unit as for the air cleaner, im not sure but i would think they could set you up. i have heard that the aftermarket fuel injection setups are pretty pricy too. so i would imagine its not as pricy as it seems. as for holley i think they make great carbs gonna get me an avenger someday T.J.

What is this "carburetor" thing you speak of? :P

I've been searching under the hood of both my Cosworth and my '72 Vega.. I can't find one anywhere...

Cheers,

Tim

Very funny Tim.

Once upon a time in a country far away, a company buy the name of Weber produced a single inline 3 barrel carburetor. It was origionally used on Mazarati or Ferrari motors. The last time I saw any of them there were two sitting on a custom Buick V-6 Englese manifold. Imagine that two 3 barrels side by side on a V-6. Looked awesome, but I haven't been able to find another, not even a picture anywhere. I think the fact sheet I had finally desintegrated from my drooling all over it. Englese won't even acknowledge my inqurys. Oh well If wishes were horses, right.

Funny all this talk about the new "Badman" and EFI.

I'm going in the opposite direction. I'm having a trio of 40's era Holley 94's delivered this week for the Edsel.
