Will this intake fit?

Postby DjTy » Sun Jul 09, 2006 4:54 pm

I have just identified the intake which came with my rebuilt engine.
I see on the site that it doesn't fit stock corvette hoods and such.

measurements:

The Performer rpm (7101)
front: 4.20"
back: 5.25"

total average is 4.725" at the center of the carb flange

I haven't bought an airfilter yet, and I DO NOT want to cut my stock hood...

you guys think it will fit? how much do I have left for the airfilter?

I'm using the same intake on my Monza with factory mounts and Edelbrock carb. With a flat-base air cleaner and a 3" tall air filter you can NOT use the stock hood. You 'might' be able to use a drop-base air cleaner and 3" filter, but it will be very tight. Here's the best pic I've got showing the flat-base air cleaner with 3" filter and the hood removed.

I'm now running a 2-1/4" (or 2-1/2") fiberglass cowl hood with about 1" of clearance above the air cleaner.

Wanting to 100% clear my stock '76 hood, then performance, which intake?

I ran the performer RPM with a 750 DP Holley for about a year. Worked great. 72 Vega Wagon with 350. Transdapt motor set up. I used a K&N made drop base air filter bottom. (Others make the cheaper) Hood shut with no contact. I had used silly putty to make sure beforehand.

Hood clearance on a Monza is tight. I am running a old Edelbrock C3BX manifold with a Carter AFB carb (same as the new Edelbrock ones). This is a old school 2 plane "hi-rise" patterned after the late 60's Z28 manifolds. It is a taller version similiar to the Edelbrock RPM manifold. Because of this setup I had to run a drop base 14" air cleaner with a 2 1/2" K and N filter. Even with this clearance is very tight. I even milled down my wing nut for extra clearance. The edge of the air cleaner just barely touches the hood insulation. Point is, it works but you have to be very careful about what parts you select. There is no way I could run any type of spacer or insulator etc under the carb. A 2 1/2" air filter element is the smallest I could really use without choking off the carb. The combination of a taller than stock intake and a aftermarket air cleaner does need to be checked closely. Here is a pic of the intake, I think your combo may work if you select the correct air cleaner.

Do you happen to know the part number for the 2 1/2 inch K+N air filter. Thanks. AL

K&N air filter # 3735 is a 14 x 2 1/2" element.
