air cleaner housing

Postby cmdstek1 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 7:54 am

any ideas on what to do about this problem. I would like to get an after market housing for a better air cleaner but at a loss of which one since it has a rectangular mounting base for the 2.5l. Woud like to come up with a cold air kit for it too. Any ideas? As you can tell from the picture the horn piece is gone and the cleaner gets dirty hot air into it.

Looks to me like if you hit the junkyard you could try for one of the air cleaners off of a early 90's or late 80's cavalier or sunfire with the quad four. They look very similar to those.

Other than that I dont know what would fit ....at least that wouldnt be too big.

What Wes said. Not sure about the quad4 though. He might mean the tech4, that's a 2.5 also. Maybe you can find one that the "horn" comes out in a better location to run a cold air duct. Cut a hole in the firewall just above the heater box and duct it to the cowl. You could just duct the one you have. I'd use a K&N filter. That houseing should be plenty big enough for the 151.

An early S10 with a 2.5 fits . I have one with a washable Accel filter if you want it. You have to modify the carb studs on the current carb and use a single stud in the center. ( I can supply those too) I can supply installed pics on my dead 151 when it stops pouring around here. Doug in AZ 8)

This is what I used on my Monza 151- Varajet carb drag car ( quad headlight - ducted from the right high beam opening )

This is the S10 air cleaner housing from the post above with the bonded on Citation X11 snout. As I remember , it just touched the hood when closed. [/img]

Back in the early 90's I had a pink SBC in my Monza. I have no idea why I did it.

The Pontiac blue makes the engine look more 'factory'.
The pink Monza must be a female - with some you can't tell until you 'open the hood'.

All my cars and bikes are female. Must be something to do with homophobia.

I dont know why either but Ive hada couple pink and purple SBC's in various vehicles.
One was done out of a POR15 block kit that was SUPOSED to be RED....but ended REALLY pink....hehe.

Guess i should just stick to the classic chevy orange or corporate blue.
And Doug....that motor is SOOOOO CUUUTE.

God bless

The " Safety Purple -Pink " motor was done for my wife to drive back in the mid 90's.

The ''Pontiac Blue " is in its current state from the late 90's.
