Fuel line, single or double flair?

Postby 78spyder » Thu Aug 14, 2008 9:35 am

Have lots of 3/8 fuel line on hand, and I dont like to run braided unless I have to. When putting a flair on the end, should it be single or double? Thanks! Curtis

I believe for low pressure situations like a fuel line for a carb a single flare is fine. usually the double flare is used in high pressure lines like a brake line. I am not sure though what the factory uses.

Factory it's double flair but like Clyde said single flair should work. I'd just as soon do a double flair and be safe though. I hate doing a job twice.

As I think about it I believe a double flare might be more leak resistant? Either way, if the factory ones are double flared that's what I would suggest. I did do some double flaring on my brake lines, it's not really a big deal.

The double flare is to prevent cracks in seamed tubing. If you do want to single flare, you should go with a seamless stainless steel line and use AN tube nuts and sleeves. . .but a quality 37 degree flaring tool runs close to $100

I've never done a single flare. That's only because a double flair is only another step or two, and another 2 minutes. Not worth skimping out IMO, unless you don't have access to a double flare tool.

Are you using Steel or Aluminum tubing? I never had any luck double flairing Aluminum...As SWT mentioned, single & the tube sleeves/nuts to go to braided on the ends. Steel, definately double flair. Lorne
