Looks like you need the Q-jet with side outlet. Or some sort of 90° fitting.

Why is the water outlet pointing that direction? Looks like the wrong outlet to me.

Not sure if this will work, or not. It's a repair kit, but the fitting is shorter then the stock inlet. It mite give you enough room to squeeze a fuel line past the thermostat housing.

Pappy, they sell the swivel thermostat housings all over ebay. I got mine for about $13 deliverd. It's the first o-ring housing that worked right.

The Other Quadrajet Carb (Carter)/Rodchester That is not pictured above;,,,,Need Picture, for AUS,
has a hole in Casting and fitting for fuel filter Hole and point's  to the Right hand Fender,
And would Clear Nicely,

They make a Holly Replacement Carb (single line) with the Fill hole pointing at fender made onto the front Bowl and would maybe clear,
Or a Carter AFB,with side fill,Have not seen one lately,,
Or a Edelbrock ,Quadrajet Replacement,
(They bought the rights to remake them)

Or A standard Edelbrock 1406 with Passenger Side Fill Rear,,,,,if you like Spead bore carbs.

The Stock two barrel carb has a High mount Fitting pointing at the Coresupport, and usaly has a 90 degree fiting for line,
(The Brass fitting)It could be tried on your set up,to see if it clears,If threads match?
Of course you Know that alredy,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,I realy like the Swivel waterNeck,

I know you are building a nice car and all, but I have done this in a pinch, I swapped out the center section of a QJet before and it worked great.

So if you find a side inlet model, just swap the middle section.Your new gaskets should come off real easy. Not exactly the " RIGHT " thing to do, but it does work.

i looked at it last night and came up with this idea
cut the fitting with just enough room to get a ring spanner on it to tighten it ,di grind the inside of the old fitting and grind down the other end to fit into the main body of the fitting
mig it all together ,grind down to make it look reasonable ,i still had a few pinholes though :( so i heated up the fitting and ran some soft solder into it to fill and pinholes and found the nice piece of fuel line to screw into what i had adapted :)
sorry about the images they are off of a phone camera :(

Most (if not all ) qjets in Aus have the straight out fitting ,IF at a later stage i find i have some space under the hood i will look at lifting the carb up a little !
